So poor Finn had a trip to the vets on Wednesday. A couple of weeks after he arrived from Ireland I came up to do him one morning and he had a sudden hard lump form above his left eye and his upper eyelid was swollen (I posted in the veterinary section at the time).
So vet came out and was a bit baffled to be honest as no signs of external injury, eye itself absolutely fine and apart from being a little tender, didn’t seem to bother Finn in the slightest. Treated with some antibiotics and pain relief and it started to look much better, then reduced to the point you could hardly noticed it so all was well.
Then just over a week ago I came up in the evening and it had got bigger again but not as prominent as it was before so we decided to get him in for some x-rays just to rule out any boney injury that may need treatment.
So off we went for the vets Wednesday and what a dream he was. I was so proud of him considering he’s pretty much been untouched out in the field for 3 weeks, he walked straight on the lorry, calmly off the other side. I was a bit worried because our local vets, although have an equestrian department, it is very small and not very geared up for horses. The car park is very close to a main road with no real fencing or gateway for security so as you can imagine I was a bit concerned unloading a big 3 year old who had only left home once before! But he was such a good boy and just munched a bit of grass in the car park while we waited. He then walked into the scary examination room and stood like a gent to be sedated. Then again was cool as cumcumber once he came round despite a massive lorry full of oxygen tanks clattering, pulling in behind him. He much a bit of grass again and then,
loaded straight up again and head home without a fuss. What a good boy!
And after all that the lump is still a bit of a mystery! X-rays showed no obvious fractures or bone chips or any other abnormalities. The vet also took a biopsy whilst there to rule out anything more sinister, but she’s pretty certain this won’t be the case due to the sudden onset and presentation of the lump. So should get the results in a week and keeping fingers crossed he’s just bumped it and caused a bit of an unusual scar tissue ???
Still a handsome boy despite his lump ?
