Finn's going to the Vet Today

To have his eyes looked at.

Feeling very worried about it.

I know I'm possibly over reacting, but what if they say he can't compete anymore, or worse still, can't be ridden.

Sorry, was trying not to repeat myself (I do it constantly!)

He's been bolting at loud noises when out competing and generally being quite stressy. I can't use the normal type head collar on him as he flies backward as I put the strap over his head.

Asked Vet to look at his eyes when doing Vac's last week and she said there was a lot of cloudiness in lenses. Taking him to Opthalmology Specialist Vet, today.
 
Poor Finn.
I'll be thinking of both of you. Had abit of a scare with my little new forest last week and thought we might lose him, but to all intents and purposes he's back to his cheeky self now, so don't start winding yourself up with what if scenarios! Take care, and let us know how he gets on.

He had a problem after he was gelded....basically he lost alot of blood and it was touch and go overnight(last thursday)

Think it was just one of those things....most geldings go according to plan, but the little fella was just unlucky. He's OK now though, and should be coming home soon

Thank you....and yes, I was very worried!

Hun, if the worst does come to the worst I think you may be surprised at how quickly he adapts. SWUO has a blind eye(not sure if it's full or partial blindness) and apart from at certain times of the day(ie dusk) she copes just fine, infact most of the time I forget that she has a blind side. It's only because she has the cloudy covering on that eye that gives it away. If he does have cataracts forming they may be able to do something about it now before it gets any worse.
I know you must be terribly worried, and i can certainly understand that, but do try not to get too bogged down with negativity. Sending you a massive hug.

Hope it goes ok matey, didn't realise he was off there today! Is it H&J?

I hope he'll be fine, and when he gets back, I'll get Twig to make him some chicken soup and mop his brow.

Hope Ralph can sort something out for him, with any luck, maybe it's an infection they can clear up or something?

I had a horse with cataracts, and was still able to do dressage and hacking etc with him. I was jumping him as well until I found out about them.
Horses are very good at adapting to these things, I found mine improved once he was completly blind in one eye - until then he could see some things and not others, and he was a lot spookier because of it.

Chin up tho, there is lots they can do these days and as people have said you'll be surprised as how well the adapt to being blind etc...im sure it wont mean retirement by any means....xx
