After a sleepless night and much military-style planning, the separation of Fionn and his mum went stunningly well! Never underestimate the power of food for the greedy broodmare : we gave Beth a very large bowl of HiFi and apples, in the far corner of her stable, drove the lorry into the yard, loaded up the little pony who has been in the field with mare and foal for the last 3 weeks, and then tempted Fionn up the ramp with a bucket of food. We had the ramp up and the lorry out of the yard whilst Beth was still contentedly munching on her grub.

Eventrider23 went in the lorry with Fionn, who travelled wonderfully well, but would only come down the ramp at the other end once his pal Chico had shown him how! They were put in a stable together, and then separated after a couple of hours into adjacent stables. They'll be turned out tomorrow together with one other yearling. Fionn was worn out by his experience, and lay flat out in his stable fast asleep for 2 hours, aaahhh! His poor mum, who can be the tantrum queen, is just very subdued and sad, standing in the far corner of her stable, and off her feed. I feel soooo mean, but at least we didn't have any hoolies, and the little chap, true to his track record, was utterly wonderful! Phew! I'm so glad that we have got through that - like becki with Hannah, I was completely dreading it!!
