fireworks at 1am!!!

Oh dear, that's out of order. I think after 11 pm it is reportable if you know who's house it came from. I don't suppose you live in Leicester as it's Diwali and the whole place is lit up with fireworks this week.

not near leicester but maybe someone was celebrating Diwalli.
No idea of address as it was not a house near me, unfortunately it can be way off in the distance and it still upsets the poor dog.
TBH I don't care what anyone was celebrating but at 1am I cannot turn the music up try at least try and drown out the noise of the fireworks

tired and grumpy this morning

I live in Leicester and the whole firework thing is stupid

The current celebrations are supposed to be a festival of LIGHT not SOUND so why not have a laser show

Its about time we do what many USA sates do - ban them except for organised displays

At the very least a 8 PM limit should be imposed as it gets dark well before that at the time of year when its firework season

Special times like the 2000 new year could be an exception

I used to live about 5 miles outside the city and remember weeks of nightly fireworks with Diwali running into Bonfire night with no break. Bangs and explosions til late at night. Since I moved to another county, it's been eerily quiet in October.

Banning usually doesn't make any difference unless there is someone willing to do something about it when they start setting off the fireworks!!!! They are banned here (Southern Ireland) and there are only supposed to be the organised displays but morons still set them off after weddings/christenings/ b'days or whatever (We dont have a big night for Guy Fawkes like you do) and I have to say most of the idiots who do set them off are the very people who moved to the country for the peace and quiet and to be out among nature. (They are also the ones who complain at cows bawling or cocks crowing too early.... give me strength..!! ) But it means we get no warnings about when this is going to happen and try catching horses who are galloping mad around the field because the idiot next door wants to set off fireworks for his kid's b'day. The Police aren't bothered "We have to catch them in the act and by the time we get there it'll probably be over" regardless of the fact that their garden and our field is littered with bits of the things.... and breathe!!! Sorry its a sore point here.

Sorry, but couldn't help but notice....you say 1 am but your post time stamp says just after midnight....was this a future event you were predicting ;)

Started here, London, a week ago, not sure what we were celebrating. It will go on now for at least a month. dog who used to have a nervous breakdown about the bangs and wallops is now quite deaf so is quite stress free. One advantage of old age.

Sorry, I was going OT.

It is rather ridiculous to be getting fireworks that late anyway. We don't often get them where I live, and even if we do we're fairly soundproofed so I don't notice them. Now and again if the farm next door is lighting them off we'll hear a bit, but for the most part we're lucky. Could you not ring the police and say you think you're under siege?

for anyone who's interested.
I have signed many over the years, Governments answer to these petitions is there are enough laws in place to stop abuse and anti social behaviour when using fireworks. That would be a valid answer if these damn stupid laws were enforceable, government just want to be seen to be doing something when they haven't a hope in hell of stopping the people who break these laws. They are as much use as the law stating you must not use a hand held mobile phone whilst driving!
I wrote to our local council requesting that they stop dishing out licences to new shops springing up selling fireworks all year round, answer was it's Environmental Health at Surrey County Council you need to contact. I did. Environmental Health there said it's local council who need to take the complaint, I gave up!

years ago it was fireworks on bonfire night with jacket potatoes. Sure the fireworks were loud but they weren't the powerful things you see on sale these days. Today's fireworks are what I'd classify as 'commercial' fireworks and should not be on sale in the first place to the public. When I was a little girl, the Council allowed all the families to take their fireworks to a local playing field to set off fireworks - again a great idea! As I said in the beginning, fireworks were let off on November 5th when I was a child. Nowadays, in the united nations we live in, there are many many other festivals going on that give rise to fireworks just as there are now shops selling them 365 days a year! There are also shops that open around this time of the year in previously empty premises selling fireworks for this period we're in - I wonder what licences these retailers have? I'd like to see fireworks outlawed and organised displays only. Exactly the same thing happened to me last night - I live near surrey and my dog was shaking he was so scared of them. It's annoying seeing as the fireworks had been going off since around 8pm - local authorities should surely just create one big display ending at a reasonable time, which would stop the need for lots of smaller displays that go on into the early hours??!

I'm in the S/E of England and it's 5.15pm . Bloody fireworks have just started going off near me !!!! Every year I put up notices asking locals to call , FB or email me if they are planning to let any off . I've lived here 3 yrs and so far not a single person has given me a warning !!!!

And yet your first thought was to get up, find the computer, power up, log on and post about it, rather than go back to sleep .... interesting.

As the house is already set up to accommodate said lurcher in freak out mode due to the time of year, what else was I going to do when I was wide awake at that time of night? FWIW the computer was next to my bed already powered up

Why should anyone give you prior warning ?

Because the poster had put posters politely asking people to let her know?

And why the heck shouldn't someone who has awoken and can't get back to sleep go on the internet and post something??

We live in a very rural location with a wedding hotel up the road - near enough and far enough that our animals quickly learn not to be worried by fireworks. Sometimes I think we should open a de sensitising boot camp!

The frustrating thing is this dog did not have a problem until she was 4yrs old, she lives with 2 older dogs who don't care about fireworks, she does not mind guns, rock scarer or thunder storms just fireworks and for some reason nail guns. she is much better if she is out walking and carries on with the walk but I wont let her off after dark this time of year.

We've been having fireworks for the past week already so will now carry on for the next three months at least!! We have them Halloween for at least two weeks for guy Fawkes night (biggest celebration of the year around this way:)) we also have them Xmas day, boxing day, new years eve and new years day, forgot to mention eid which we've just had and Diwali which is apparently still on going. To top it all off my dog hates them and is scared but shows her fright by continuos barking and racing around the room, so it's my least favourite time of year, I really should just move :)

I couldn't agree more. There should be just the one organised display for bonfire night only. At the moment, the way things are, they going off all over the place with the odd one in the early hours of the morning! Not only does it frighten my dogs but it frightens me too when I'm woken up in such a way!
