Have seen a story on DM online about the owner of a chain of pet stores (name rhymes with pets horner) who had a massive firework display at his home resulting in the death of a horse and extreme distress to others and other pets in the village. He allegedly laughed in the faces of the villagers about it.

He won't be seeing me in any if his stores ever again.

Bloody awful, as is another clip in the comments!

All fireworks are close to animals
True but there is specific guidance about fireworks near livestock and horses.

The Animal Welfare Act 2006 states it is an offence to cause any unnecessary suffering to any captive or domestic animal. Government advice is – Fireworks must not be set off near livestock or horses in fields or close to buildings housing livestock. Anyone planning a firework display in a rural area should warn neighbouring farmers in advance.

Section 4 of the AWA 2006 says ……

(1) A person commits an offence if—
(a) an act of his, or a failure of his to act, causes an animal to suffer,
(b) he knew, or ought reasonably to have known, that the act, or failure to act, would have that effect or be likely to do so,
(c) the animal is a protected animal, and
(d) the suffering is unnecessary.

We don't have the shops here but the man is obviously an idiot and it would appear was badly advised by 'the professional' who told him that 800m was a safe distance away from horses.
Our horses aren't particularly bothered by them, in fact the Appy was looking for fireworks last night, she seemed disappointed that there were hardly any but we can see and hear them for miles around, well over 10 miles away, let alone 800m.

I've used one very locally on odd occasions but in an emergency only as quite expensive.
Feel sorry for their staff tbh.
According to local faceache village page, the manager and the 3 ft staff there are utterly despondent as they are getting brickbats, which isn’t pleasant.
I totally misread that and thought for a moment the store was staffed by umpa lumpas

Why are the staff so small?
