I'm thinking ahead to bonfire night as I will be away on my honeymoon and leaving the pups with a friend (they are 5 months old now). I have a cd with lots of noises on it, including fireworks which I have started to play for them. I saw an ad on tv last night about one of those plug in things, but wanted to see what everyone else does to help them cope with fireworks. I also plan to ask the vet when I see him next too.

Any good suggestions?

One of our dogs (border terrier cross) has a fear of fireworks - he runs round the house panting and barking, very agitated.

We have tried a DAP plug-in but it had no discernible effect. Then a few months ago a friend gave us a Thunder Shirt, which she'd bought in the wrong size for her dog. We thought we might as well give it a try.

We have been getting Dougal used to wearing it and associating it with good things, in preparation for November 5th. A few weeks ago we were caught out by a sudden, huge fireworks display near our house. Dougal began panting and panicking when the bangs started. We quickly popped on his Thunder Shirt and guess what? He heaved a big sigh, and settled down to sleep! I'm hoping it does the trick again on Bonfire Night.

Might be worth a try, as I think they offer a money back guarantee if it doesn't work.

Well, since my parents dog has gone deaf he no longer worries about fireworks, although given yours are only puppies you may have a while before you can enjoy this benefit :D

I think Im going to get three thunder shirts, how great if they can work. My three come into the most central room in the house, with the TV blaring and we ride it through.
Wasn't looking forward to it this year, with a new baby - but these shirts might be the key!

Well my gun dog is actually scared of fireworks went out last night as door opened massive bang he looked up and now doesn't want to go out in dark.
He just came in and lay by sofa tho so not too bad. Couldn't decide if scared or confused about why bang but no birds!
Still not scared of gun tho we practiced with blank tonight to make sure!
Weird creature!

My older dog was very scared of fireworks. We were quite firm about no contact/cuddles during the noisy bits! He eventually realised that he got no fuss and now doesn't even raise his head even when they're next door. I don't know if that would work for yours, but mine seemed to feed off my anxiety. Once I relaxed, so did he.
