Was just wondering if anyone had any experience (good or bad) of horses who have had their hind legs fired.

Currently riding a horse who looks like he has been on the back of his hinds legs just where the tendon goes into the hock joint. The scars don't all the way down.

Information on why this may have been done and future prospects would be most welcome.

Sounds like he was done because of curbs, to stop them developing or getting bigger.
If he's been like it for a while and been sound I would worry about it.

The only thing is he probably wouldn't do very well at showing, as they like them unblemished. For everything else he should be absolutely fine.
