I have a throughbred cross and i have recently noticed a firm lump directly at her troath latch and i have tried to do research and find out but i was unsuccessful , just to be on the sate side does anyone have any ideas of what it could be

Fly bite, sarcoid, fungus .....

Where exactly and how big? Does the horse react if you squeeze it? Is it completely covered with hair?

Exactly where is it in relation to the throat latch... On the side of the face, on the jaw, underneath the jaw?

Just behind the jaw at the start of the troath and it is very visable on one side and not as much on the other , she was a bit uncomfortable when i squeezed ot but she didnt seem in pain and yes it’s completely covered with hair

How big is is? Could it be her thyroid? Mine had an enlarged thyroid one side for about 15 years so don’t worry unnecessarily. Vet said to monitor but it never changed.

if both sides could be simple grass glands.

Without a pic it's hard to know but I've had a couple of horses with enlarged thyroids, both passed a vetting without an issue and it never caused problem. The first was quite obvious, the second was only noticeable when you felt under the throat area.

Whats grass glands? im curious. My grey had a lump like this, then it went away for months, then during a summer returned, and started oozing a bit, then went away again. No other symptoms, just that lump.

Mine had a lump, a bit further down by the sounds of it. It hurt when squeezed hard and had some blood/pus discharge at first. I had it scanned (which wasn't conclusive) and in the end we left it as the alternative was to remove it under anaesthetic. It took around 18 months to disappear.
