First Aid Courses

Horse came in from field last night with a cut on his leg, looks like he's been kicked. In these situations I tend to panic and worry a lot; did I do the right thing, should I call the vet etc?

I think I would panic less if I was more confident in what I was doing.

Are there such a thing as a First Aid course for horses? Has anyone been on one? How do I find out about them (if there is such a thing!)?

My vets run a first aid course for horse owners every 6months, find out if your vets do something similar, or if not request that it might be a good thing for them to do?
