After a great start to 2013 event season im looking for some advice on a good First Intermediate. He will run at Burnham Market Novice then i was hoping to do a Intermediate at either South of england, Belton or Hambledon .... any advice on which is better as a first Run?
Thanks in advance!!! xxxx

I don't know about intermediate level but I'm told hambledon is not really a good one for first timers. But that was a while back. Not sure about it now. Have you looked at the course photos on shoe string eventing and some of the facebook pages?

Belton and Hambledon are normally top of the level on all courses.

Belton entries closed yesterday so may be too late! It wouldn't be a first time track as a few of the let up fences are the same for the advanced however I did take a first timer and new horse to me round once, steady but clear! It is inviting which makes a huge difference. Hambleden wouldn't be as square but trickier in lots of other respects (twisty in woods & technical, strong waters) and wouldn't take a first timer there. South of England is more first time friendly :) only done it a couple of times but the tracks were not over huge/technical.

Weston Park is same weekend as SoE and that's a lovely inviting track.

Not sure how far down the hill the intermediates go at South of Eng these days, but it can be very energy sapping particularly if the ground is a bit sticky, which it can be. You used to need a fit horse for SofE inter.

Love Hamblledon as think they always do a great job with organisation but its not a good first time course for at level. We have used it as a good marker I.e a good novice run there defiantly means you are ready to step up, but appreciate that's not what you are looking for!

I told a horse round the novice for its first time at SoE last year and thought it was a very stiff course for a first time novice. Gatcombe or Aston are nice first time int's
