Did first BE for about 10 years for me and first ever for my 6yo. Just the 80 at Somerford.

I was completely shattered the night before so forgot to set an alarm!! Luckily the baby woke at 5.55 and I managed to be on the road for 6.09, 14 minutes was quite impressive I thought! Got there in good time and ran round course, lovely! Really impressed with the whole event in general it was beautiful, everything close together and great facilities. They even had a TV set up to show the wedding! Really lovely atmosphere.

Back to the horse, shes a complete dobin at shows bless her so was very chilled! Warmed up nicely, did a perfectly nice little test but you know, the jockey is just rubbish!! I just really can’t ride well on the flat I did it in the same saddle as I rode XC with the same length stirrups because it’s the only way I feel ‘right’. Anyhow she got 33 which is actually pretty good for me.

Onto SJ, looked small and inviting. Made a bodge of number one, I thought she was going to chip in but she took off and did a huge jump! Rest of course uneventful for a nice clear.

XC, there were a couple of questions r.e. Steering and accuracy and one with a alternative which my mum thought I should do. But otherwise was feeling confident for a good round. There were a few to go when I got down there and the two I watched both refused at number 1! She warmed up lovely, into the start box. I set off very positively and forward just so she knew what the job was but she absolutely flew!! She was such a pleasure to ride, fast but not strong and looked what she was doing so I felt confident to let her bowl along and jump out of her stride. I took the alternative (mainly because my mum had said I should!) which was a bit longer, then we had a bit of a blip at the water, she was going a bit quick and hesitated at the last minute. I felt a bit unbalanced and was worried we might have incurred 20 pens but we didn’t, so clear and 2 time which was brilliant because almost everyone had time penalties and lots of them.

We had to leave before the results but turns out she finished 9th! 48 on the section so chuffed to bits with her.

I kind of feel like I should move up to 90’s because she is finding it easy. But on the other hand I’m just enjoying 80’s. Would you move up or stick to 80’s until they seem too small?

Oh my goodness that's fantastic. Really really well done. And clever baby for getting you up in the nick of time!

Keep going at the 80s until you go to enter and think 'ergh no, cba to do another 80' :D

Brilliant result.....very well done. It's not easy being a 'come back kid'.....says she who recently did her first dressage test for eighteen years.

Where next?
