My three year old son had his first canter today and then his first jump! He doesn't ride often, but luckily the loan pony is a saint. My Daughter rode first, she is nearly 6 and she can trot and steer all on her own now, but has an overwelming desire to keep kicking so the pony pops into canter and iam running like a mad women to keep up! She too likes to jump and is laughing so much that alone makes her wobbly - again the pony is a saint and 'catches' her on landing the ''massive'' 1ft fence - gotta start somewhere!
So then my son gets on, he hasn't quite got the rising trot, but he is more in it for the bounces! Suddenly he is cantering and totally oblivious while iam laughing, running and holding on to him leading the pony - talk about multi tasking! He then trots in to a tiny X pole and the pony jumps just so he can get the feel - the smile was a picture. What a good pony, shame she is called Mischief as it really doesn't suit her!
Anyway, can you remember your first canter and/or jump? Sadly I don't think my two will, but today was a good day.
