Okay, so I don't normally post comp reports in NL. However, I've posted about new horse quite a few times recently so thought I'd share my first comp report with all your NL's too
Okay,
So had Caramac for 8 weeks now. He is a lovely, lovely boy. Completely fallen in love with his ginger face! He needs work in the school though. He's pretty stiff and unyielding and unbalanced. He's also L-A-Z-Y. Although I know that's a school mindset rather than physical as get him as on a hack and I can't stop him
Had physio and dentist out last week who both gave him a glowing bill of health, also had saddle checked!!
He has also been better the last couple of weeks in the school and I can get alot more flexion in the neck and poll now. Still not completely giving at the ribs but it IS getting there.
Canter is ummmm, well, let's just say pretty unbalanced and a lot of motorbiking or breaking normally ensues.
So anyway, the RS/Livery yard directly across the road from us are in the middle of their summer dressage league and so I thought, since I literally only have to walk just across the road I may as well enter and see how it goes/what the judges think of him.
SO, tarted him up Saturday night, I think he quite liked it actually
he had Saturday off and, from a thread I saw on here last week, I put some oats in his feed Saturday night. I was desperate to get as much oomph as possible on Sunday, particularly after a very lazy session on Friday night.
So, this morning pootled over to do the Intro and Prelim, was very worried about Prelim due to the canter but thought it doesn't matter, it's literally just going to be a training session to get a benchmark of where we are.
He was lovely and forward for the Intro and soft and light in my hand and stayed like it too. He is quite spooky so was a bit worried what he'd make of the warm up and indoor etc but nothing phased him, he was a really good boy.
He did a sweet, obedient test. Video below, you might want to scroll to about a minute in as judge didnt ring bell for a while DISCLAIMER*** I Know you dont have to change your whip over, this was intentional as I find he responds better to a flick of it if its in inside hand.

He could've been rounder I know, HOWEVER rounder atm with him = S-L-O-W-E-R so I left it as it was. My hands look REALLY pully I know
I swear I don't normally ride like that but nevermind.
Went home for lunch (oh what a novelty that is, the perk of only competing 500 yard from your house
) as Prelim was nearly 2 hours later.
Came back a bit early to go and look at the scores, we came 4th out of 11 with 66%
I was very pleasesd. HOWEVER, I got 2 penalty marks deducted because I saluted with my whip in my hand
I wasnt aware there was a rule with that and didnt even think about it tbh. Disappointed as we wouldve come 3rd if it wasnt for that! The judge really liked him, comments were Your lovely horse moves with great regularity but is disturbed at times by your widening of the reins. Caramac seeks your hand beautifully but it needs to be there steadily & consistently throughout
Opps, never been told off by a judge before. I hate my hands in these videos and dont normally ride like that, think I have picked up some bad habits with him last 8 weeks.
Prelim time, didn't do too much in the warm up as didn't want to zap him of all his remaining energy so just played about in walk doing lots of lateral work and working him long and low.
I was pretty happy with walk and trot parts, canter, let's face it, totally unbalanced and pretty horrendous
less said the better. At home, whenever I try and balance him up he breaks down into trot, so I was VERY tentatively trying to do so here but I neednt have worried really and shouldve tried harder as he was so full of it I doubt hed have broken.
Video here, again scroll to 1 min in as judge took a while to ring bell.

Took him back, unravelled his poncy plaits and turned him out, which he was very happy with

Went back over the road after I'd mucked out etc to look at the results.....to find we'd come first out of 8 (we were in the restricted section) with 62%.
Judges comments A little unbalanced in some parts, do take care- you have a talented, athletic horse here but he needs your support (outside rein) in the more difficult spots)
So I was VERY happy with him, went and stuffed a couple of polos down his gob
Okay so I'm well aware of both our many faults but I've only had him 8 weeks, haven't had any lessons yet which is unheard of for me however I only had him a couple of weeks then I went off on holiday, came back and this month I have spent a horrendous amount on him with physio, dentist, new dressage saddle, farrier. SO as of next month I am going to start getting trainer over and try and go back to weekly or fortnightly lessons so that'll hopefully put us on the correct road.
I'm just so pleased with him. He is the horse who I have on loan only because he got expelled from the local equestrian college due to taking off, dumping etc the students, owner doesn't gel with him too well as he makes her nervous, he wouldn't sell and it was all a bit of a palava. I have had a few people approach me since I've had him saying things like 'ohhh you've got him, ohhh he can be really naughty, ohhh you won't get that horse to jump' etc etc (which is starting to grate on me now as theres nothing wrong with him!
) but he honestly hasnt put a foot wrong since I've had him and I am having loads of fun with him. Every time I see his little orange face I gulp because I heart him.
A few pics
This is how I found him at 6.30 this morning so he must've worked hard
