I've put in for the best gelding class at the local RC summer show. Not too sure what will be required.

I have the gelding - which is a good start, but all my tack is black. What exactly do you do when the class starts, is it just trott on both reins, canter and then hope he stands square?

If I smile and look lost will it give me extra marks?

As long as your tack matches then black is fine :) Enter the ring 'mid pack' if you can, that way you can follow what other people are doing. Judges and stewards are normally very helpful and if you tell them that it's your first time then they will point you in the right direction. Also, try and watch a couple of classes beforehand to see what they do. Apart from that relax and enjoy! :)

You walk, trot, canter each rein in a group turning across the diagonal. You'll be called to line up, then one at a time do you're individual show. You'll be signalled out, stand for the judge to look around & then proceed with your show. Walk, trot canter each rein then along the back length I try to give with the reins & show a controlled gallop on one rein. Use circles if you want & easiest way to change rein is figures of eight. When finished stand infront of the judge, rein back if you can - no worries if you can't, then salute by dropping one hand & bowing you're head. Then back to you're space in the line.

Most importantly don't forget to smile & have fun! Good luck!

I've shown in black tack RC level don't worry.

Enjoy it!!
You normaly go in and walk trot and canter round as a group, sometimes they make you change the rein in trot then canter on the other rein as a group but not always. You then line up, try to get in the middle so you can watch some others. Individual show is walk trot and canter on both reins but try to keep it short as possible so the judge dosent get bored, they have a lot of them to look at in a day. Black tack wont matter as long as its clean and fits.
