Trying out the raw diet. They've had a chicken wing for breakfast (thought I'd give them something small incase doesn't agree with them straight away) puppy is still chewing on his 5 mins later which is amazing as usually his breakfast is gone in 5 seconds. I did have to hold puppies for a while though as thought he was going to swallow it hole.
Bit of advice. Do I then give Alfred who's about 20kg about 3 more wings tonight and puppy who's 16 weeks must be about 10-12kg 2 later? I have got some pigs kidneys and livers aswell but guessing I won't give these on the same day?

Hi. I can only tell you what I do as I'm no expert, but have been feeding for about 3 years with no problems.

I would put the liver & kidney in the freezer. They can be a bit rich for dogs just starting with raw & could give them runny poohs. Many dogs take a while to learn to like offal (some will only eat once lightly seared on each side). If you need to use it up now, I would cut into smallish cubes & feed 1 cube a day for several days. I have found that puppies adjust to switching to raw more smoothly than adult dogs.

I'd stick to chicken for the first week or 2, then introduce other 'meats' slowly, one a week, with the main diet still being chicken. After a few weeks you can start to balance the overall diet a bit better.

I also find that eggs & tripe are ok to feed early on in the diet as they seem to be easy to digest & very tasty!

With regards to quantity, you should aim for about 2 or 3% of the projected/actual adult weight. Once you have been feeding for a while you will be able to adjust according to how your dog looks - too thin = more muscle meat, too fat = more bone.

I hope that helps a bit, but if you need anything else just shout.

That makes more sense now with the amount. For sone reason I was going to feed puppy at his weight now, I obviously had a thick moment then. They have had cooked liver and kidney before from the goose at Christmas but can put it in the freezer for later that's fine. Don't want no runs if it's going to be to rich! Thankyou
