Okay so I've been wanting to go for years..then when someone offers me a lift I'm now terrified!! I know my lad will look after me, he's always been excellent on fun rides and doesn't get too bothered about horses running past or in front of him. So my question is do you think I need to clip him before going? He's a heavy weight Irish Cob in full feathers and mane. He's got a reasonable winter coat coming on and I do usually clip but not til Nov normally so do you think he'll be acceptable as he is for Sat? Also I assume I'll be okay wearing black jacket and cream jods? And is a body protector okay for a wimpy first timer?

I'm going with a much younger more confident capable rider so I'm guessing she'll be separated from me, considering she's riding a ex point to pointer I've no doubt she'll leave me and my big lad standing so will it be okay if I tag along with the slower group?

So many questions...why did I keep asking if anyone was going hunting this season?

How exciting you will love it, don't forget to get some pictures for us lot.

Also I assume I'll be okay wearing black jacket and cream jods? Could you wear a hacking/twead? with shirt and tie maybe, that is usual attire for AH.

And is a body protector okay for a wimpy first timer?

Yes but ask your friend to make sure you are ok before she buggers off, she should at least spend the first time with you?

Go and enjoy all the best, reports please.

is it hound exercise/autumn hunting or have they had their opening meet? my draghunt has opening meet this Sunday so most people will be in black/blue from now on. if not then tweed is better before opening meet, but it wont matter that much.

I wear a BP - nothing wimpy about it - it's saved me a few times when something's gone a bit wrong (I'm not wimpy, just like to be as safe as poss when jumping 5ft hedges!)

I would think about taking some hair off if he's anything like as hairy as my welsh cob who is dripping after a fast hack in this mild weather. draghunting is pretty fast and furious - normally we gallop for several mins at a time. anything more than a bit of fluff and they will find it hard going - it's going to be 20 degrees on Saturday!

:D Thanks guys. I'll be doing a bib clip this afternoon for him then. We went for a 'practice' gallop over the fields yesterday and as confirmed the TB left me in her dust but both were perfectly happy being over taken and left..although my lad was his usual chilled out whatever self and Lucy the TB bounced...alot!! So guessing her rider will be having a energetic few hours!!! Lol!!!

I've decided there will be absolutely no jumping on my first time out, not going to risk me being a jelly head and falling off at the tinest wall!! Might do a ditch or something cos he's brave as anything with them but jumping I tend to tell him to run out so not something I'll be wanting to do with 10 other riders up my bum, so for their sakes I'll take the alternative routes. Not sure we'll manage the planned 8 lines but if I do 4 I'll be happy and have friends back at the cars with hip flasks so I'll retire gracefully and enjoy the social aspect.

Thanks again, I'm hoping there will be a photographer there because I definately need photographic evidence that I've finally had the horse and the nerves to go!! :D

Sorry yes Star the opening meet was last weekend so I should be okay in black jacket. Thanks.
