After much gesticulation Ive decided to take my 28yo TB to his first dressage competition this weekend. He loves to go out and about in the trailer and so i decided on a bit of a whim to try it! We are only doing the intro walk and trot test but im still pretty terrified. We've got a couple of friends coming along with their horses for company and moral support. I did a few novice tests some years ago on other horses but am pretty ring rusty. Anyone got any top tips?

Good luck! Remember you're doing this for fun, so just learn the test well (i draw it out!) and it should be an enjoyable day for both of you!

i think tbs are the best dressage horses, so go for it.

try to relax, if you are tense you won't ride at your best and remember to not hold your breath, keep your hands soft and use your legs without tensing them and ride from the waist.

have a great day to remember!

Good for you. My 17 year old had his first dressage in 9 yrs last week and he got totally over excited but he enjoyed himself, even if I felt worn out trying to control him!

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! He was amazingly calm, lazy almost which surprised me a lot. We scored 58% for 10th place which i was so chuffed with. Already getting excited about the next one!
