Im the same as you. I havent done dressage before and am doing the intro b on the 6th Sept. I have learnt the test and am practising like im sure you are. Get a caller if you are worried about forgetting the test. My daughter will help me if I forget. Good luck to you, im sure you will be fine !!

Just remember to breathe.

Tell yourself its not actually a 'test' - its an 'evaluation' lol of where you are at with your schooling. Is it not possible to have a caller or someone nearby in case you do forget. Worst that can happen you lose a couple of marks and continue from the next movement. Having said all that I am trying Rescue Remedy this weekend as although I tell myself I am fine and not nervous - horse is a bit tense so wondering now if it me

I know the test, can remember it at home and infront of instructor, just worried nerves will get the better of me on the day. Might see if someone will call for me if i think im going to forget on the day.
Thanks, Good luck to you for yours on the 6th

I'm doing my first dressage with my new horse this saturday, (its her first ever test and she's 17!) but not my first test although i'm always nervous - all i'll say is, just relax, if you can have a caller do it, will make you far more comfortable, and dont forget to breath and enjoy yourself! you'll be fine, have a great time, and best of luck!

I will be taking the rescue remedy soon, I took it for my first show when i was jumping (this will be my second show) and i think it helped.
Its also not knowing how things will happen, i know they write down comments on how you do but when do you get given this?

Usually once the class is finished they are put on a table (well where I go they do this) with your rosette

Good Luck - in my experience its always better than you think and with dressage its always a very laid back quiet environment.

I did my first ever test last weekend, and being a rather anxious person I worried a lot about it beforehand, and hoped that nerves wouldn't ruin the day for me. It was fine though. I just spent the time before I got on board going over and over the test in my head to make sure I knew where I was going. I did make a mess of one or two things but the best bit of advice I was given was, if I got in a muddle, to put that behind me and think what the next movement was and concentrate on doing that better. I did really enjoy riding the test, so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Definately have a caller, even if you know the test it will stop you worrying that your mind will go blank.

I did my third one on Sun - thought we'd done terribly but we actually got placed 6th which was nice. I was quite tense this time for some reason. My second test I did was at 9.15am on Sunday morning after being out till early hours at a party. I did really well in that one and have some great pics of me smiling like a loon - think I was still drunk!!

Being relaxed is obviously the key!

Just remember to breath, relax and try and enjoy it!

good luck! i would definitely recommend getting someone to video your test, it really helps to compare your sheet with the video in the aftermath!

Good luck!! Did my first test beginning of this year (my very first show) - once you get in the arena the nerves seem to go!! I had a caller which was brilliant and even Robs enjoyed himself - something different !! I was overjoyed when I finished - didnt get a rosette but the excitement of actually doing it was praise enough!! Because it was my first show, nearly everyone at my yard came to cheer me on (even the owners wife and son) - it was fantastic ! Mind you the only drawback is you'll get addicted to shows - I have !! One piece of advice which I was grateful for, was to watch a couple of people doing their test before you - when I watched a 5 year old girl on her lovely shetland doing the test, I must admit the thought went through my mind, 'I really have to beat her !!' I did, but only just. She was great !!
Let us know how you get on.

I have been told that my grandad is coming to take photos and my dad is coming to video it. My mum has also entered the class. Its my second show but first time doing dressage.
I will let you know how i get on

Oooh good luck to everyone doing their first dressage test! This time last year, I was doing my first one - and I was 40 then! Just to prove it is never too late to learn something new.
My advice is the same as lots have said already - try to enjoy it. Your horse will be more relaxed if you are.
Remember - it will be a great achievement to get there, do the test and then get home again having had a good day. Any placings are just a bonus!
