Have a large glass of somthing strong if your not driving, I did my first one at 40, my other tip is to get someone to call the test for you even if you know it inside out, cause I find once in the arena I forget everything.
Rescue Remedy, it really helps me. I now smile during tests, its taken a year though!! I actually laughed during my last one when my girl decided that the tap on the bum I gave her was not needed and gave me a 2 finger salute with her back legs!!!
Relax and enjoy it, its meant to be fun. Are you going with friends??
Thanks , I was not going to have a caller but every one has advised me to have one so I will . Would love a stiff Brandy before hand but may have to drive so not a good idea. Any more advise more than welcome Thanks very much
Dont forget to breathe! Sounds daft I know, but it will keep you calm and keep pony calm. I did my first one on my then 4yo - first ridden outing - nearly ended up on the judges knee, it was quite amusing
Another vote for having a caller and a swig of Rescue Remedy.
On a more general front: make sure you allow yourself plenty of time so you are not rushed, know your test even though you have a caller, make sure you have the correct tack/outfit so no last minute panic changes and remember to smile!
Hope you have a great day.
PS If you were riding my horse I would also suggest superglueing yourself to the saddle !!!
I would say have a caller too. I did my first one last sunday and was so glad I had a caller in case as I forgot the whole thing when i got into the arena! I would get there early too so you're not not in a mad flap to get ready and warmed up! Good luck
breathing is very important!! I used to forget to breath all the time, ditto plenty of time to get there, take a flask of tea and some nibbles and don't forget the Rescue Remedy
