Hi All

Pony and I are off to our first ever competition together on Saturday. (It's definitely not his first but it certainly is mine!) We are doing Intro A and Prelim 1 dressage.

I've been making myself a packing list and have got this far.

o Tack (saddle, bridle, white saddlepad, girth)
o Haynet(s)
o Water and drinking bucket
o Mini grooming kit incl. baby wipes, brush, hoofpick, scissors
o Wash bowl, sponge and sweat scraper.
o Lunge lines x 2 and lunge whip to load (just in case!)

o Black boots plus pulls and jack
o Stock plus pin
o Jacket
o Helmet
o White gloves
o Black dressage whip
o Safety pins (several)

o Phone, cash, entry print-out, snacks

Have I forgotten anything?! Do I need anything in particular to attach my number for each class?

Thank you!

Hairnet
Test sheets
Rug in case it's chilly
Travel boots etc
knife in case of emergency

Note of test times (I tend to schedule out when I'm on then work back that I need to start warmup at x time, tack up at y time, arrive at z time all the way back to what time I need to get up!)

Where I go they supply string for the numbers but might be an idea to pack some just in case.

Definitely include treats or feed for horse - its what they would pack first!
Also, make sure you have plenty to drink for yourself (often forgotten) and i would also include tissues (for runny nose - am sure you won't need them for tears), basic first aid kit (human/horse), fly-spray (even if indoors, the warm-up might be outside), sunglasses, a pen to write down results if you want to, another pen as the first one is bound not to work!, spare halter if you have one (or at least a spare lead rope), baling string (useful for just about everything), raincoat (to ensure fine weather but take a towel too in case it is not), spare reins if you have a pair (spare anything really, as it is surprising what you and your horse can break at a show), something to scoop up droppings from car park (although you can usually find or borrow something at the venue), I also include things like lipstuff/sunscreen for me if going to be standing outside.
I presume from your list that you are travelling in jodhs/breeches and blouse/shirt, but take a change of clothes too as more comfortable for driving home in and essential if you get wet.
Chocolate -essential for nerves before hand and celebration afterward (or commiseration if absolutely necessary); plus chilly bin to stop chocolate melting if hot.
As you can guess, i like to be prepared! My list has got longer and longer over the years, and particularly for eventing, but remember that most people are happy to lend you stuff so long as it doesn't interfere with their own test.
Oh, but don't forget to put the horse in!!!

I'm glad it's not just me that writes endless lists of things and times - it's a good thing I'm used to getting up at 5.30am and we have a lorry that's big enough for three horses (or one plus stuff!) Thank you all muchly, I'm very excited :) xx

Gosh, you certainly aren't the only list writer. I have a desk drawer full of them!
I am sure you will have lots of fun, and as little_critter says, smile and enjoy yourself.

Oh my goodness I love a list - drives my family bonkers I should think :)

Sounds like you are sorted - really good luck and enjoy :) remember to smile :)

Just wanted to say thanks for all the tips - we had a great day scoring 65% in the intro and 66% in the prelim! I'm thrilled and we definitely had everything we needed thanks to the list! X

I'm excited for you! I'm also competing on Saturday so here's my list:

Horse:
Bridle
Bits x2
Saddle
Numnah
Spare head collar
Spare lead rope
Boots
Feed bucket
Water
Water bucket
Carrots and treats
Grooming kit with spare plaiting bands
Schooling whip and jumping whip
Spray
Lunge line just in case
Saddle soap (I may be guilty of cleaning my bridle in the car...*cough*)

Me:
Shirt (already on, plus spare)
Jodhpurs (already on)
Boots
Hat
Hairnet (jumping so no need for me)
Spare socks
Tie/stock
Jacket
Food and drink
Money (classes plus extra)

Trailer: spare tyre on, haynet in and tie rings secured and checked)

That's all I can think of! You may also want your dressage number in the bridle so one of those will add to your list. Good luck!
