I’m three weeks my pony Lillie and I will be competing in our first ever inhand show together at a local a&p show
We are entered in the coloured horse/pony section (pintos, palominos, cremellos, buckskinsetc)

what is acceptable to wear ??
What shoes are best ??
Can you show in a normal bridle ??
Dos and don’t of inhand showing ??

any other advice would be greatly appreciated
Plz no hate we are doing this for fun !!

thanks everyone!

Well-done for taking the plunge. Clothing... if you have them...some decent trousers in an opposite colour to pony's legs if possible ( or jodhpurs). Hacking jacket and tie, hat- riding hat may be best if there is any chance pony might be spooky. Footwear. whatever you find comfortable to run in that will keep your toes safe from hooves. Jodphur boots, country boots or riding boots with jods. Normal bridle is fine with reins over the head with a caveson noseband

Make sure you can stand the pony up straight for the judge - a leg in each corner and practice trotting in hand. There is no sorrier sight than a handler who cant get a pony to trot beside them. Most important is to have fun. You could get hooked!

If you can watch the class before so you know what you have to do. The most important thing having is a clean pony and ensure they will trot nicely with you at their left shoulder. Standing still is also a skill that sometimes doesn’t come naturally.
