I’m three weeks
My pony Lillie and I will be doing our first ever inhand classes at a local a&p show
We have entered in the inhand coloured (pintos and palominos/cremellos etc) horse/pony section

What is acceptable to wear ??
What foot wear is best ??
Can you show in a normal bridle ??
Dos and don’ts of inhand showing??
Any other advice would also be appreciated
Plz no hate we are doing this for fun !!
Thanks everyone
Ps my pony is a palomino

I used to wear light coloured trousers as my horse was black, shirt and tie and jacket and gloves, , wore jodhpur boots. As mine was young I used a bridle and a 3 way coupling so it was partly attached to the nose band so I was t pulling on her mouth. I also carried a whip. I also plaited her mane and tail and oiled hooves…

In hand showing in the U.K. You would wear.
A beagler/trilby or flat cap
Shirt and tie
Tweed waistcoat or tweed jacket
Dark trousers for light legs, light trousers for dark legs.
Brown gloves
Show cane
Short boots that you can run in.

For youngstock either a filly slip or in hand bridle with a brass ring bit, coupling and leather lead rein.
For adult horses a ridden bridle is usual for a hunter type a flat noseband and plain browband. For a hack or riding horse a more delicate bridle and coloured browband. With regular leather reins.

Make sure your horse is responsive to the trot aid so you don’t end up dragging it round.

When you walk away from the judge and turn round to trot past, turn the horse away from you not toward you.

Make sure the walk is nice and active with you near the shoulder and the horse slightly ahead of you.

You stand the horse up so the inside front leg is slightly ahead of its other fore leg, and its outside hind leg slightly stretched back from the other hind leg, but the cannon bone should be vertical. When the judge moves round to the other side move your horse forward or back a stride so it stands the same the other side.

Hope this helps
