Hi there all

I have been invited to a show tomorrow, somewhere Near Crowborough but no idea where or what its all about -do you!?

What do I wear? what are the costs for entering 'shows' (if they're called that!)?

Everyone at the yard tonight kept their horses in and plaited their maines ready for the big event - I chucked mine out in the field!

Help!

Usually entry fees are about £10 on the day and a paramedics fee of about £1.50 on top of that

If you enter earlier then you get it cheaper, but a bit late for that now

Wear beige jodhs, long boots for adult, short joddy boots for child, black or hacking jacket and smart hat.... gloves, hairnet etc.

Dont worry too much, just enjoy yourself

where do you show then?
round me most local rc's on the day fees are around £5.

Frances are you entering inhand, ridden, working hunter or showjumping classes?

Local riding club show last weekend at Tweseldown...... entries in advance £8.50 per class and £1.50 paramedics but on the day £10 per class and £2 paramedics.

Couple of people I know entered 2 classes on the day and the horses were soooo badly behaved they didnt even get into the ring!!!! What a waste of money that would be

Shows are in surrey and hampshire!!

Errrr..... depends..... if its a local show then the proper showing classes will expect beige/canary ones, but you may get away with it if you are jumping

sorry

Would no one lend you some???

And you will have great fun learning...... just go and enjoy.... no one is going to shoot you or boot you out..... .Unless its really unfriendly!!!

You just may get placed further down the line than you would have otherwise. But its not the winning

Is it a riding club show?? What classes do you think you will do???

Frances28 - hope you enjoy it! I did my first ever show last year, it was terifying, and pony and I didn't get placed but we had fun and it was good experience.

do you know which classes you are doing?

I don't know what it is - think it may be a local one. I want to do the Veteran one (I have a 16yr TB Mare). Problem at the moment is she's got a bit of a swollen fetlock due to a dash a mud rash. She not lame with it, but don't want to put pressure on her.

I have to decide whether or not to go by tomorrow early AM - she's out tonight too so will prob be filthy!

I can sense an early start for you then......

You could always get ready and go, and then suss out whether you want to enter or not..... you will also be able to watch and see what the other competitors wear etc.

And most importantly, you will learn how your mare behaves..... for some it can be a nice day out... merlin loves it and is really chilled (verging on being comatosed when not in the ring) but for others its a mindblowing disaster

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Ah thanks MerlinsQ - i will let you know (although I know I'll chicken out) but there will be others!

Still no idea where this place is. Have looked through all the diary events for tomorrow and can't see anything remotely familiar!

Echo all that merlinsQuest has said, go and enjoy, remeber the mantra "This is our hobby we do it for pleasure" Usually said through gritted teeth at our house

Hi francis28 I found that going along to show with my friends and watching them without my horse helped me. you could always take your horse and tack up just walk around see haw she/he responds most horses have different personalities at shows. most important is to have fun we all get the dreaded nerves.
