everyone seems to be falling off at the mo! cant belive i fell off schooling tonight!!! been xc, sj etc etc and i have my first fall schooling at home!!! was trotting nicely up the centre line and he spotted something and did a huge sideways/backwards/forwards spook and i went the other way. got a sore ass but was okay to get straight back on. first fall off new horse (well had him 9 months) tell me bout yours!!!

The first fall i had off my horse was very similar to yours actually just a spook in the school...really embaressing when you stay on rears ect out at shows but you cant sit to a spook. oh well

I've owned my horse for 4.5 years, and it took me a year to fall off him! And it was fairly dramatic... don't do things by halves! We jumped a pallisade, turned sharply, he lost his footing and went down, I was thrown off. Both leapt to our feet, I checked him over, then leapt back on! Continued clear, as our fall was clear of the penalty zone... Quite proud of that one really- suitabley dramatic with no actual pain.

First fall off Bella was last monday *We got her May 6th*, we didn't have a saddle by that point, so I was riding bareback. She was really good, but she decided near the end that walk meant trot, trot meant canter, and canter meant buck.. So yeah, i flew off. Was alright though, just extremely glad i wore my BP. Hasn't done anything since and i haven't fallen off again hehe and we now do have a saddle so its a bit easier to stay on! I think I was kind of lucky to fall off this early, so I wans't fearing it :)

I fell off both of my horses last week! It was the first time i'd fallen off my tb, he had a napping fit and bucked me off.

I first fell off my pony seven years ago when jumping a ditch... we had a difference of opinion i jumped the ditch.. without him! Haha! But now he loves them....!

I got bucked off out hunting!! Highly exciting day, sideways, skipping, shaking, peeing and pooing loads. The field charged off, with me, then as we were going downhill to gather in a gateway (as you do) PHOW PHOW...could only stay on two rodeos, quite impressive Iam told....PHOW PHOW again, and Iam flying!! Only time she has ever bucked and meant it. It was when she was rising 6, so I guess baby sydrome. Feeling of being winded is a killer!!
I've had Meg 10 years in October, fallen off her about 6 times, twice out hunting, this one being the first. Once on the road, she spooked while I was riding on a long rien - serves me right!
However, on ALL occassions she pisses off for England, which is the most annoying thing. I have yet been unable to keep hold of her. Grrrrr.

I fell off mine for the first time about 4 weeks ago, he spooked, ran, saddle slipped and off I popped about 20m after the spook.
Fallen off him 3 times since then, all through him bucking with excitement when going out -_- but he is only almost 6 bless him!

We have owned H for 2 1/2 years now, we got him at the same time I started to ride again (after a 20 year gap). H is a happy chap, but he was only five when we got him and as we were his third owners plus he had also been out on loan, we were pretty unsure of his abilities and so we took it pretty steadily, both for his, and my sake.

I can't remember which was my FIRST fall, so I'll describe two (of the many).

We returned to our field after a hack and before feeding him it was decided I should canter H. He was still pretty strong and a bit wild at a canter at that time, but I was not bothered by that, so when my OH said to canter him off we went. This did not seem like a good idea to H, as every step took him faster and farther away from the car and his feed, we finally reached the point of no return, with me happily flapping along in blissfull ignorance, when H shoved his head between his knees and turned 180 degrees faster than any living thing I've ever seen. Needless to say, I flew on in the direction we had been travelling until gravity could no longer be overcome by velocity.

On another occasion, while hacking, we came across a little impromptu jump that someone had made. My OH said that it was as good a time as any to teach me to jump and suggested I trot H towards the sticks on tyres. Hup! over we went eeezzeee:D So I turned him round and headed back, at this point my OH expressed the opinion that I was brave jumping downhill  but it was too late, over H went with a bump and I described a neat parabola off of his back and onto the hard rocky ground with a THUMP.

No harm was done to me or H on either occasion, I have my knowledge of breakfalls to thank for that, and we have enjoyed many similar moments together since then, ohh the stories we could both tell :D

I fell off Lil after 3 months when she bolted out hacking. Galloped down a very steep bank and I flew off as she corned sharply at the bottom. Eight days on and I'm still black and blue and have pins and needles in my leg but I'm riding again which is the main thing :0)

Embarrassingly I fell off my horse for the first time in walk :S My novice bf maneged to stay on when she spooked massively at a bin, however when I took her for a walk and fell off when she stepped sideways.. oops

well. my first fall was the day after i brought him home :O. just schooling!! he could not school to save his life when i first got him and didnt understand that i wanted to change diagnal and decided to do a massive cat leap in the air and nutted me in the face. I was gobsmacked because i could stay on through bucking fits and rears. Although it was a pretty big jump size wise from my last horse. 14.2hh to 17hh!

i have (or thought i had!) quite good stickability!!!! he was even scholing really well so not as if he was pissing about! i reckon he was having a huff as we were working quite hard and he thought hmm..... mite just put in an almighty spook at nothing here. git!!

Another silly schooling one here :o
Well actually it was in a lesson. He was going really nicely, I asked for trot, he spooked at the jumps in the corner and I slid in slow-mo over his shoulder :o My instructor laughed her head off.

The first time I fell off my newest horse (the TB on the right of my sig) I was schooling (well I call it schooling but she had no idea then as had only just finished racing) lady turned her 3 horses out next to the school, they went MENTAL, Lilly didnt even notice. Same lady then turned 2 shetlands out on other side of school, little monkeys galloped off and Lilly went bonkers, I stayed on a bit, then fell off and then she jumped out of the school over a 5'+ post and rail fence!! Oops.....

Thought it wouldnt be possible to fall off her in worse circumstances but then took her on her 2nd XC schooling trip and she jumped me clean off into the water, she jumped in like there was a 6' fence on the edge of the step, I was jet propelled off and was soaked!!! Then Lill ran off and jumped into the garden of the huge posh house in the middle of the course, that fence was huge and then we couldnt get her out again!!!!!!!

I doubt anyone can beat those 2!!!!!!!!!

Today [ref - 'I hate deer' post earlier!].

Leg now rather hurts :/ And have gravel rash[well, plough rash!] down my arm. And a broken riding hat!! And ripped jods... Lovely!

The first time I fell off my pony was after I had owned him for about 8 months. I was having a jumping lesson and we were doing bounce jumps. We got to the first jump on the right stride and he took off with his front legs and not his back legs and then stopped. I was ready for the next jump and went out the front door! He just stood there looking down at me with the jump underneath his belly!

The first time I fell of Lacey was really stupid. We were in an open field out hacking and I asked for trot, she got excited as we hadn't ridden together in an open field before and did a weird leap type thing, almost a mini bronc ie up in front, then behind. I fell out the side door and she stood there looking at me in a 20acre field! didn't even attempt to fall off.
It was really stupid, I should of stayed on but I think it was the shock of it, I was so used to a 13hh that bucked so when Lacey did her mini bronc at 16.1 (I wish she was still that height now) it felt huge!

Fell off my horse - into the sea!! We were walking along with waters edge in about 1ft of water when he did a 360 degree spin. Took me completely by surprise and off I plopped. Thankfully I had just had my boots polished and my jacket re-proofed so only got wet from my waist to my knees. Was so funny and was a soft landing!! Was a nice day so dried in the sun. Not sure what spooked him - maybe a crab nipped him!!

I fell of mine for the first time out on a hack having a slow canter up a farm track she saw a gate/water trough/something I couldnt and spun round and I came out the side door. I stood up shouting Yes - after 20 years of not riding I had wondered if it would hurt if I fell off so glad it didnt.

My first ever fall was in something like my fourth lesson - I was just trotting solo for the second or third time and some girl starting opening the sliding door into the indoor school, the angelic horse I was bouncing about on skipped about 2 inches to one side and I plopped off:o:D

Last fall, I was cantering a new pony for the first time and the little git suddenly ducked off to eat the hedge:eek::mad: and as my stirrups were a bit too short, I just carried straight on:eek::o:D Mind you, he only tried that one once...

My first proper fall, was when i was hacking out a mare i had on loan round the country lanes when i decided to take a short cut down a canter path, a couple of horses in the field next to us started bucking and farting around, my mare found it incredibly exciting and took bucking with no warning, the saddle sliped up her neck, she put her head down and off i came. I thought i broke my hand but thankfully didn't i could'nt get back on because of my hand so i had to walk for nearly an hour.

was jumping two jumps at home. Only little ones warming up . Jumped the first and realised we wouldn't make the second so asked for him to stop, he said no, i said woah, he said no and then found that there was a jump by his feet which he tripped over, quite literally and ended on his knees as I practically half slid half roly poly'd down his neck and landed on the floor by his ears. lol. Needless to say he listened to me the second time we tried it!

Mine has a massive phobia of cows so I am always on the look out for any rogue bovines when I am hacking - so was pootling along one day nice and relaxed - cows on the far side of the field - good good! :) - until one devious little one deigns to put his head over the top of the hedge - never seen a 17hh horse move so quickly - so with a quick rear, buck and a twist I am left lying on the tarmac with a bridle in my hand and a horse shaking if fear in the hedge on the other side of the road - and just to add insult to injury - his previous racing trainer drives round the corner to see the mayhem that has occurred :) :)

:o Well, he wasn't exactly new, the first, and only time, I came off (more 'horse fell' really) my grey in the 4 years I had him was when he stumbled out hunting and went down then performed impressive acrobatics in an effort not to stand on me - love him.
I landed on a rock, in slurry (why do I always fall off in slurry, AND out hunting infront of an audience:confused:) and cracked my shoulder, it was bad enough to make me go back to the box, that REALLY peed me off, waste of a good days hunting:mad:

The first time to fall off my new horse was on the second day ... :o
The saddler came with some new dressage saddle, because I bought the horse without tack (very common in Germany).
He fastened the girth and I mounted the horse, and before my right leg was in the stirrup, he raised and stomped with his front legs on the low, steep roof to his right side (1,30 meters high). He slipped-off this roof back to the ground, fell down on his front knees and thudded on to his muzzle (three teeth were broken out). And I had immense luck, nothing was broken, I had lots of large bruises. My horse only lost the teeth, thank god !!! :)
