Well went to first showing event yesterday wish i had stayed in bed,got up early to plait etc set off to collect friends pony she was late, then the pony kicked all the way to the show ground had to stop three times.
Arrived unloaded all good then find out classes are running late.
wait and wait until ring is empty but no judge four hours after class was due to start we go in by now my horse is fed up it starts to rain and the wind picks up he will not stand still and gets very cross
pulled in fourth but just keeps moving and drops down to 6th place
Really not sure i am cut out for this showing

I'm afraid that's showing! Better to be early than late, and I agree the hanging around is a pain, but it's part and parcel of it. You should go again and see what happens in nicer conditions. 6th place is still good!

I was pleased and surprised with placing as he really did mess around but when your used to having times and also feeling ill and friend being like a wet blanket just made it feel horrid.
Also when you know your horse can do so much better it is hard
I think i need a quick kick up the bottom

*KICK*

Get back out there and go showing again! lol. It's not as fun when it rains I must admit (last show I went to I got through three sets of clothes), and very different to dressage where you have a precise time and if they're running late it's not by too much.

I'm sure next time you'll enjoy it more!

Know what you mean! I gave up on showing for similar reasons. Days of prepping a grey hippo for the show ring, his terrible behaviour, sweating and shaking, my stress levels through the roof, rain soaking us both through, then to go in and be 'judged' ,usually as wanting' by someone whose opinion you may not even care about! Nah- not for me! Just say no to showing!

I know what you mean fleabitten it not really me atall,to be honest the only people who seemed happy were the ones that won everyone else was moaning either about the judge or other people ie look at him her or that horse
Thank you for the KICK fihunt

I'm inclined to keep showing for occasionally, much like I sometimes have to for indoor winter showjumping. The waiting around gets to me. I don't mind if I haven't done it for ages or if the weather is nice.

I am a fair weather show er.

i started the affliated showing 5 years ago, i had no idea.

last december i bought a ned that i had every intention of showing, in march this year we started out.. came away from our 1st show with 2 3rds and a 6th, i was chuffed as i knew horse was under conditon.

2nd show.. same classes. 2 3rds and a 5th. again was pleased.

then i hit the county shows. i knew what the result was going to be before i entered, BUT we still came away with a place.

what ive found the worst thing is, .. despite me being in my 30s.. i look young ( still get asked for id) and im short.. and i had a 17hh horse.

know considering the level ive been showing at,. to date my most patronising comments, are.. your horse looks happy and thats a big horse horse for a little lady FFS!

my point.. i hate to say it but in the showing world you need your name and horse out there every weekend. its a fickle world and only the tough keep going. and win.

it would be easy to chuck it all in, but i personally really enjoy it,. to the point where ive sold a wonderful horse for a pain in the butt of a 4 yr that i know can go beyond county level...

yup showing is a b*tch but you feel great when u do well

so chin up, and keep pluggin at it! its much more fun when the suns out! (or its inside!)

o and **kick**!!!
