Had my first hour group lesson rather than the usual 30 minutes private.

Well ive scraped my knee, think its rubbed against my joggers and the saddle.

Keeping my heal down seems a bit better, learning diagonals is hopefully improving and I need to be more vocal positive than aggressive....... don't realise im using such harsh tones because im used to dogs and keep low tomes when something has gone wrong.....

Is all though I enjoyed it haha! =)

Roll on next saturday

Also feels like I have wobbly, jelly ankles when trying to put weight on them......suppose in time ill learn and these things take time, patience and practice. ...

Jelly ankles? :confused3: You probably just need to strengthen them, takes practise. I'd invest in breeches or jods, joggers might cause more rubbing than close fitting trousers.

Dunno what your instructor is telling you, but I'd be teaching you to use your seat and legs as opposed to your voice.

Im learning that as well, just tend to rely on my voice at the moment because I'm around dogs all day I use my voice a lot training them as voice cues ect......just need to learn how to communicate with a horse haha!

Any tips on strengthening my ankles so they dont feel as if they are going to come straight from under me haha!

You could try standing on the edge of the bottom stair at home with the balls of your feet, and gently learning to lower your ankles and bending your knees whilst keeping your balance? Sounds odd I know but could help strengthen your ankles (ligaments I imagine and also your calf muscles).

Stand on a step with just the balls of your feet on the step
Your foot has to be parallele to the step and stand there for a few mins at a time...soon strengthens the ankles

It gets easier the more you ride! Have fun...

Will give it a go =)

Will also be calling into some shops while im out and about looking at boots and breeches!!!

Don't go for really cheap stuff, esp boots (unless in the sales!!!!! But then it still needs to be a good brand!) as it really won't be comfortable or hard wearing. And i expect proper riding boots will give you better ankle support.... So you won't feel like you're going to fall over every time you stand up!

Why do I think you're a troll??

With a relatively low post count people could ask the same of you.

Really sick of this constant troll calling of new members.

Mark, well done. Breeches or jodhs will make a huge difference to your comfort.. no help for the wobbly ankles, sorry. Now if you were female and spent a large percentage of your time in high heels this probably would never happen :D

I wonder how my clients would feel about me strutting around walking their dogs in some killer heels =$

Boots and breeches will be much more comfortable and help with ankle support :)

Think how much you'd sink if you walked dogs across fields in heels though :D

Glad you're having fun with it!

Yeah wouldn't be practical really would it haha, always enjoyed being around horses it's just affording one haha!

Good for you, sounds like you're seeing improvement already. Re: the ankles I second what others have said, but stand on tiptoe first, then soften ankles and your knees too when you allow your heel to sink - also tighten your buttocks at the same time, this'll stop your knees coming together and keep your leg straight. :-)

Like above, I think you should start with heel raises from the floor, work on rocking (toe raises then roll into heel raises) to progress. To work front and back of lower leg. Stretch the heels and calf also. Just for starters.

I thought my " weak ankles" when I started riding came more from my weak core muscles. So, I did standing for a few seconds while keeping my balance. Don't know what others think.
