Jester has now been two weeks unshod and seems to be doing brilliantly, decided to do our first hack in boots today and he coped really well, a friend came out on foot behind so she could see anything that I couldn't feel and he was perfect.
We hacked just under two miles and trotted up a steep hill with no issues, he is picking his feet up much better than he ever did in shoes and feels fab.
I have attached a token photo, I know he is overweight but three weeks and no exercise has piled on a few pounds :)

What make did you get, please? I bought apair of cavallo simple boots, for my TB and although the sole is a perfect fit, they seem to be made for very upright feet, as they are very wide and loose around the pasterns, and way too high at the heels. All I do is walk, cant wait to get shoes back on!

I bought cavello sport, I went on hoof boutique? They have all types on there with advice on which sort suits your hoof shape :)

It's good advice to speak to the hoof boutique. The boots have to be suitable for the shape of the horse's hooves, though, Stormox, if you are finding that yours are too flat and too low heels for boots they are probably just the sort of feet that need time out of shoes to get back to a more healthy shape. There will be boots other than Cavellos that may work better for you, I use Epics on mine and the adjustment seems to accommodate a variety of hoof types.

It sounds as though the best thing to do is to give it time, if the heels are underrun then it is going to take time to recover, if you immediately go back to shoes and the same farrier you have gained nothing. Can you walk in hand on a smooth tarmac road.

Following with interest....looking to take my boy barefoot v soon. He is a similar build to yours so will defo look into these boots. did you use the measuring guide on hoof boutique?

Yes it's pretty much the same way to measure for all boots then because Jester has slightly longer than wider feet I choose the style that suits most :)
