How old were you when you got your first horse or pony?

I was 6, when we moved out of Bristol, my Mother went mad and seemed to bring home a new pony every week. I can remember her riding one and leading another to the village school and my brother and I doubling up to ride home

Oh I was a tiddler. I had a couple of very pretty welsh ponies; one was black and his name was Jackie

, the other was called Toska and he was adorable, chestnut with a big white blaze, four stockings and a flaxen mane and tail. These were my Grandfathers ponies that he kept for me to ride and I was given my very own proper pony that I looked after myself at about 9 or 10. She was a 14.2hh grey Connemara X TB called Misty and she was the most fabulous pony. She won almost everything in the gymkhanas, WHP etc, jumped everything and anything and was truly a wonderful girl.

About a year after getting her I got another grey 14.2hh Connemara X TB called Foxy; she was a bit nutty but still a nice pony. She was purely a jumping pony but never won anywhere near as much as Misty won - my bedroom was always dripping with cups and trophies and rosettes, the vast majority of which were Misty's winnings. I had Misty until I was 16 years old and I had Foxy for a couple of years.

I do often wonder whatever happened to Misty and I did try to find out but couldn't.

I was 13, had been riding for two years and my parents made me cash in my Premium Bonds, savings etc to pay for him. I also had to cycle round the area to find a field to rent in order to show my commitment.

They were always supportive but didn't hand things out on a plate. It's made me appreciate everything I've got.

I was 10 when I got my first pony a 12.2hh welsh who seemed to tip me off every day for the first year until I learnt the art of staying on when he put his head between his knees and bucked.

I was 18, I had been riding for 12 years, and the day I found out I had been offered a full time job I rang and bought him. That was 11 years ago and still have him, and always will.

I was 15. I started riding at the age of 5, taught by the local farmers daughter then at riding schools and helped a lady with her horses, ridden and driven, between the ages of 11-15 and my parents finally gave in when i was 15 and said i could have one for my 16th. It took about 6 months to find him, looked at loads and being 15 and despirate i would have had any of them but i had good people helping me who found me the most beautiful welsh sec d called Rotherdale Quincy, actually owned by a friend. He was 2 1/2, is now nearly 10 and he will never leave me!!! I did miss out on all the pony stuff, all the shows, pony club camp etc and then all the young rider stuff as i only just got my first trailer at christmas but we did manage to go out a few times a year, catching lifts and i wouldn't change him for the world. I also now have to ponies.

I was 10 I think.

He was a little Dartmoor X Arab, bright bay 13.2 called Falcon. He was naughty as sin and his favourite trick was to gallop round and round the arena until you gave in and did a flying dismount... at which point he would screetch to a halt and turn round to stare at you on ground as if to say 'what on earth are you doing, we were having such a laugh'.

I adored him though.

I was 5/6.
It was xmas day and we were walking down the lane by my house and my mum told me to try a pony. I said no because he wasn't mine. then she said
Yes he is!

I grew up on the livery yard that my mum ran. I was put on the older broodmares to babysit me when my mum was mucking out. I didn't get a pony of my own until I was 12, as my mum wanted me to be old enough to look after it myself. My first pony was called Henry and he was a 14hh Heinz 57! He was bright bay and as safe as houses. I loved him but soon wanted something with a bit more razz! So we got Gabbie, my 13.2hh fell pony who was fab. I had her until she was 27 and loved her to bits.

I was 12, we had just moved to a house with stables and mums friends daughter wanted to get rid of her loan pony as she had broken her collar bone on it. My parents agreed to have him. HE soon taught me to ride and I never fell off him with all his antics in 3 years. My sister however fell off everytime she rode

I was 12 and Chex was my first ponio. I'd been asking for one for ages, but with completely non-horsey parents they wanted to wait until I could look after it myself.

I was 21... parents dont like horses, nor could have afforded to buy me one when I was smaller so had to save up for one myself.

I'm now the one thats poor, all my money goes on the old nag!

I started riding [finally] when I was 13 and a riding school opened a few miles from our house - my parents refused point blank to drive me to the other one 7/8 miles away, when I was 16 a insurance policy my parents took out for me when I was born matured, I saved every spare penny I could find and when I was 18 I bought myself a horse for my 18th birthday present [instead of a gold watch or whatever]. My parents were not amused and never supported me, or helped me in any way - I was bleedin' lucky that mare I bought was sound and healthy the entire time I had her!!

I was about 11, and he belonged to someone else but they gave me his saddle and bridle and told me to do as I pleased with him as they were off to uni and didnt have time for him anymore.

I got my two their own pont at 2 and 6, later this year I shall 1/2 own my very very first horse, I say 1/2 own as I'll have to share him with my eldest who is rapidly growing out of their pony....

21!! I got my bargain basement Welsh D who I adored, he taught me so much, lost him a year ago to colic... now, at 27 I have 3 lovely horses and am making up for my horseless teenage years...!

I was 5 - a welsh mountain sec c I think.
I used to wish on stars - don't know if you know the poem so i'll write it:

"Star-light, star-bright, first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might, have the wish I wish tonight"

And then I would wish for a pony!

Scarily enough, her name was Starlight...... to this day I wish on stars!!

I think I was 9. Been begging since the age of 4 when Id first sat on a horse! Can remember FINALLY the day came when I was told in the kitchen that I had my own pony!! They told me his name began with "L" but they wouldnt tell me what it was until I went to do something (bribery) so I ran so fast just so I could be back quickly to find out my new ponies name!

I remember going to see him at a yard. He was so pretty. But he was also only a 5yo in a new environment so he was hyper as hell which was a tad scary! Still have him to this day

I was 14, now coming up to 18 and we're still going strong! I'd been riding since I was about 7 and had a horsey mum but she'd been adamant we couldn't afford a horse despite many years of whining

When I was 13-14 I started hacking at a more local riding centre and always got put on a fat little black mare. I did some work experience there and for two weeks I got to do everything with her, long story short we fell in love and luckily she had the good sense to whinny cutely at my mum when she came to see her! YO immediately ran off to fetch a loan contract, lol.
