I have just booked my first riding lesson for next week, last one I had must have been about 10 years ago. I also asked them not to be gentle and just make me work. I have the hat and boots and even some clothing I could use. (no, no jophurs yet as I am also trying to loose weight and they will just be too big in about 3 weeks) Am scared and exited at the same time.

Last time i was at a riding school was back in my home country and I was always very much an outsider as I always used to have my own horse and wasn't there for years at the time. I really hope this time it is going to be different and I hope I really enjoy it. The chat with the person from the centre was very pleasant. No point in thinking the worst or the best, I have paid and I will and I will enjoy it, finally riding a horse again.

And I will probably regret it the day after. :)

This was me about was two years ago after not riding for 15 years!! Its a slippy slope.....I now have a share horse, still have a weekly lesson and ride 2/3 times a week (would ride everyday if I could!)

Its a great feeling and I think you appreciate it more when you've had a long break. Out of interest where's your home country??

Have a great time and let us know how it goes :)

P.s. Yes it will hurt in places you didn't know it could hurt :P

I know it is a slippy slope, hope to work towards my own horse again. Home country is the Netherlands, but moved here just over seven years ago. Before that I was working a lot to pay for frequent visits here so no time for a horse. I have been re-introduced to horses in November by a friend and have been looking after two ponies, but they need to build up their own mussles again before riding them, so working on that too. However I thought I brush up on my own riding skills again. Found a great deal as well.

I know when I was still riding a few times a week and my instructeur was mean one lesson, I still could not walk the next day and that was when I was already used to the riding.

Only bought in december, so I think so. Was a christmas present from my oh. I have checked it does fit and does not come off when upside down and is quite tight, but not painfully tight.

That's ok then :) wouldn't want you turning up at a riding school and finding you had to use smelly manky one instead of your own!

I am dutch, Hoi, and started riding after about a 12 year break. Previously just did ponyclub in Holland and had my own pony. Gave up when going to Uni. moved to the UK 10 years ago and took the plunge (after 12 years of not being near a horse) to buy one 5 years ago, now we have 3.
It was a long road sooooooo much has changed over the last 17 years. My pony lived out unrugged 24/7. We never clipped or shoed or used a hat :D .
Anyway, for me I love my lessons with my Polish instructor. She is fair but says what she means and does not beat around the bush. I think it is a continetal thing as I have trouble with the nicely does it british instructors.

Anyway, good luck and enjoy your lesson ( I hope)
ps if you go hacking good luck with the hills scared the hell out off me being from mole hill land!
