............was not as great as I'd hoped

The lady was very nice and has done alot to improve the riding of others at my field, but I don't think she is the one for me and Zoom.

For one thing she was too scared to get on Zoom
smirk.gif
Zoom is a good girl but she is not like the happy hackers that are at my field.

She was very complementary about my riding but I need help!!

The problem is, I am having trouble getting Zoom to accept the contact and stretch through her back due to playing high-goal polo.

I don't have alot of money to spend but if:

1) anyone knows of a good dressage instructor that is affordable and would come to West London or
2) any of you dressage riders fancy coming to ride Zoom and giving me a few pointers for a fee,

let me know

Did you choose your best friend, husband, wife etc after just one hour????? No? Give it time, good instructors need to get to know you and the horse before they can really help. If the instructor is qualiifed, insured and competant then they probably can do wonders - better than having no lesson in 10 years which is not somthing too be boasting. And be prepared to spend money for a good one! My BHSI dressage trainer is £40ph.

I am not 'boasting', if I thought not having lessons for years was something to be proud of then why would I be looking for an instructor?!

The instructor said she was not 'the most experienced rider' and 'a bit of a wuss' and that she would never want to ride a horse as sharp as mine. I therefore think it is not a goer......after 1 hour or 50 hours!

I don't know where to start! GGR, MaZ has been doing very well, but has decided that the time is now right to have lessons again. I only have lessons with someone who will get on my horse, and not everyone will - if they won't get on her, I won't have them teach me

.

As to choosing an instructor, I have found, as has Daughter, that everytime we've had one that we've given more chances to, it has not worked in the long term and has left us down in terms of progress, time and money, not to mention frustration and in one memorable case, the pony going backwards in his schooling
frown.gif
. Other instructors have instilled confidence from the outset and we have 'clicked'. I believe that one should keep trying until one finds an instructor one does click with - the reusltant relationship brings a greater degree of success, harmony, and ultmately happiness, which is afterall, the reason why we have horses

Thanks Mrs M!

TBH I wrote a pretty blunt reply to GGRider at first but then didn't post it!

It's nice to know SOMEONE understand my POV xx

Ditto this, some people are just plain rude.

MrsM, do you find many willing to get on Dizzy?

[/ QUOTE ]

Instructors, yes; 'normal' people, no
smile.gif
. There's not many people I'd ask/let get on the Dizzy one lol. The daft thing is, apart from two hissy-fit sessions, she is more annoying than anything else. I've only once felt scared on her. She's big, young, self opinionated, but shes not malicious. She'll question her rider, but she also looks to her rider for support. I only have to ask once and she'll give me her last ounce of strength
smile.gif
.

I'm not a good rider by any stretch of the imagination, but I've learnt what she likes and needs
smile.gif
. Before anyone gets on I tell them how she likes to be ridden - basically, if they don't ride her as she likes, they won't get anything out of her
smile.gif
. See, self-opinionated mare lol

COmpletely agree with what you are saying - I spent far too much time and money on a "very highly accredited" BD trainer - who made me feel like sh1t after every lesson - and nearly destroyed any confidence I have in my riding skills. After I told her that I was not happy about riding other horses (due to a bad fall) she then promptly told me I Had to ride her WB - and got really really stroppy with me when I wouldn't. Cue me leaving swift like...

Personally I need an instructor that I can talk to - I get quite nervous with people that I don't know all that well, and if I can't talk to them I get frustrated and upset. I have managed to find somebody that I get on with, and she understand where I am coming from and what I want to do. Most of all she hasn't told me I am stupid for having a lack of confidence in myself and my horse.

I'm really sorry I can't help you with an instructor - have you tried looking on the BD trainers - just as a starting point. Maybe if you try contacting a few and go and meet them and watch them teaching someone else before you start giving them money? I much prefer this approach before handing over money to someone that I don't like much...

Good Luck (sorry this turned into a bit of a ramble....

Why dont you ask Beki?? She is a bit more exspensive £20 an hour but she is fully qualified and has dressage training etc... her horse is schooled to elementary level ... she did that all herself! Might be worth a try?
