So my first lesson was today. And Oh my god, what a difference! I haven't had lessons in over 5 years and I have a Horse who can just about walk and trot. Well she watched me warm up and then the real work started. I had to change my position completley and she showed me how to make my seat more effective as Ruby was just switching off to me as I was nagging far too much. We practiced using my seat to walk Ruby on and speed up and then to slow down. I didn't realise how much how bad my position was before this. Ruby was really getting the hang of it and I could control the speed of walk and halt without relying on my hands or lower leg. We theb worked on it in trot and pracriced pushing the trot forwards on the long side and then slowing right down on the short side. She tried so hard! Torwards the end she was even stretching down an softening, coming into a slight natural outline :D. I have been struggling to canter Ruby for the past 2 weeks. So today to end the lesson RI wanted one short canter on each rein. She went into canter straight away both times :o I was shocked. I felt like I had a completly different Horse. I have learnt so much today and know what to work on. Which is pretty much my entire position and too use my seat instead of nagging with my legs. Can't wait for the next lesson :D

We did have a bit of an iffy moment, the sheep were being moved and were herded past the yard. All the Horses were going crazy in the fields (which are next to the school) Ruby was getting worried and I was too! But in a way it was a good thing as RI could see how nervous I can actually be. She ended up asking me random questions to keep my mind of it. Like what are my faveourite foods. It really helped then it carried on with the lesson and some breathin excercises.

Well done you! Fantastic feeling isn't it? I had my first lesson (in 15 years!!) last Saturday, more of a confidence boost, and OMG, I haven't been out of the school since!
Keep us posted on your progress.

Woo that sounds brilliant!

I have my 2nd one tomorrow too :)

How did your first lesson go?

Roanwitch, I'm glad your enjoying your schooling :) It is such a great feeling. I felt so proud of us both, she worked her little butt off for me and tried very hard. Can't wipe the smile off my face.

Thank you. Yes shes really nice and seems to know what shes talking about. She was also very understandable when I told her about my confidence issues.

Really good i thought! Got a lot better tune out of him by the end than the beginning! It was Fanatical from H&H that taught me! Perhaps ask her for an expert opinion :)
