What was/is your first pony? And how old were you wen you had him/her? I'm 31 and have just got my first pony who also happens to be my daughters first pony lol charlie a 5yr old 12.2 tri-coloured hairy chap xxx
mine was a little shetland, had him when i was 10 months old. Black with a star, and very very stroppy ! hes nearly 28 now, and his attitude is worse than ever ! Out on loan, as could never sell him !
First I owned was when I was 10 & she was 2, a lovely connie x tb. I'm now almost 32, she'll be 24 in spring. I still ride her & would never have parted from her, & I never will.
Daughters first was really a friends ancient shetland, available from birth. First she's properly owned I've had just over 4yrs, when pony a yearling & daughter 3. Pony officially became hers when it was 3, but really they were always a pair, despite having far more suitable ponies available. Pony is an 11.1 mini x, daughter has always said she will never part with her, they adore each other. And tbh, I'm too fond to ever want to put her out on full loan even when she's outgrown. She'll no doubt be around still if I end up as a grandma.
My first pony was a 4 year old Irish thoroughbred just backed and very green paid 140 pounds for him when I was 15 he was killed when he was 8 jumped out of his field and was hit by a car He was an amazing jumper registered BSJA and jumped opens against the a grade horses in our area, Second was a wonderful event horse Arab x clydesdale who looked just like a massive arab I had to leave him on permanent loan when I moved to England from Scotland when my daughter was a baby 35 years ago so I expect he is long gone now would be lovely to know he had a good life but lost touch not long after we moved He jumped anything and I mean anything he once galloped up the field with a lad who was supposed to be a professional jumped the barbed wire fence two strides over the road and jumped over a 6 ft hedge into the river fortunately the lad was still on board when he landed, He also jumped over a beach hut when a lass from australia had her first ever ride on the beach and instead of turning him towards the sea turned towards the huts and over he went again she was still on board at the other side scared me witless on both occasions
My first pony, 9yr old Welsh sec A, Dimples! I was 9 too.
He's still never had a 'proper' education, so I'm now reschooling him, at 19yrs old! I just bought him back after 2yrs, when my mum had to sell him, it's great to have him back.
This was us 2yrs ago...
And this is the first pony I've bought myself!
He's a Fell colt, and I'm really looking forwards to bringing him on & seeing him grow
My first pony was called Gypsy and was 13.2hh of pure evil. She bit, kicked, refused to be caught, bucked like a bronco and jumped out of the field to follow the hunt if they passed. My parents paid £50 for her in 1969 and we had her until she died in her sleep in 1980. I loved her to pieces and she taught me to ride but I'm still carrying several scars where she tipped me off into barbed wire. She also bit Red Rum and ate Princess Anne's bouquet at a RDA display
Keep em coming! Lol I like hearing about your first ponies, unfortunatly I can't ride charlie as I am too heavy but hoping when flick does outgrow him and he will go on loan from our place we will get a pony/horse suitable for us both gives me time to lose some weight x
My first pony came from a local riding school that was closing down. I'd been riding my dad's TBx on the lead rein and was begging for a horse of my own, so one day he said 'come on, we're going for a drive', and off we went with the Land Rover and box (I didn't think this was at all strange, very trusting I was at 7!).
His name was Scampy, he was some sort of mongrel Welsh mountain pony, liver chestnut with a head like a bucket and a heart like a lion 27 years old when I got him, and we had a whale of a time. He thought nothing of galloping about the field with me on him and we had a go at jumping too (very often taking off and then landing in the middle of the jump, with him looking very smug). I gave him away when he was 34 so he could teach another couple of children to ride on the lead rein (and because I'd outgrown him and was only keeping him as a pet) but he only lived a mile down the road so I was able to visit regularly. He passed away aged 35.
Still got her I was 11 and she had just turned 6, she's 14 this year and I'll have had her 8 years in May
She's a 13.3 Welsh D.
Sadly we lost the early photos of her i.e.when we got her. Shame as she looks enormous and my feet barely come past the saddle flaps!
And this is Nesta, the first horse I have bought with my own money, 14.3 welsh D and yes she does look like the other one

Here's my first pony, he has a lovely nature, easy to handle etc. Can be exciting to ride at times . Has taken non-riders on his back for lead-outs (inc. adults and 4 year olds) no problem - lets my kids (4 and 6) groom him I've only had him a year but I love him to bits.
I don't have a photo of my first pony of my own but this is the second bit of a naff photo for quality but you get the drift.
She was 10 then and I was a year older, the previous one was under a year old lemon yellow palomino 3/4 arab. Prior to that I shared horses with my dad and siblings.
First horse, Ranger.... I was 11, my nan bought me a 3 year old sec d, great horse for a few years and then he got a bit too much for me and put me off riding for ten years! Was sold to a family friend and is still with him, he will one day be coming to live the rest of his days with me
Aged 22 here
First horse I bought myself
Ayla, my number one, she's not very well at the moment so keeping fingers crossed we will be riding again soon
I still have mine, he'll be my one and only I think. He's seen me through school, uni, marriage and everything in between . Though at 31 he might not see much else
