I took Wolfie to her first puppy class this evening. I was first to arrive and they thought I may be the only one turning up but then some others joined and there were 6 of us. As it was a nice evening we went outside and started off just having a short leading session so the trainer could assess where we were, then it was time for attention getting and sit which they all did. Wolfie was very excited about having lots of other dogs around and I found it very hard to keep her attention but the clicker helped a lot.

We set off for a short walk down the road, stopping at the kerbside in turn, practising sit and then crossing the road and returning. Another short walk with the dogs interacting with each other, and and little more attention. We split into 2 groups then walked past each other, then the puppies all stood in a circle while we took it into turns to walk our dog around all the others, weaving in and out.

The hour passed really quickly, and next week if the weather is good we are going to a local common to do some recall. We now have a very tired puppy on our hands this evening.

Oh go on then, a few pictures if you insist

A rare moment of peace, this really shows how much she has grown

I often have this problem, and she's getting a little too big to be a lapdog!

But most of the time the Westie insists on being sole lapdog

Aw, lovely doggies :) All mine have loved puppy training classes apart from one of my whippets who refused to sit on the floor (too cold) so I had to take a carpet tile for her. Embarrassing :o

Thanks Snowy. When we first got the Westie I took her to classes but she tried to terrorise all the other dogs. I had her under control but I couldn't take her for the final week, so Mr JB took her, ad they ended up being put in the naughty corner, behind a partition to keep her away!

Am so pleased for you that it went well JB, Wolfie is constantly sprouting in all directions!

Thanks. She is so big already and growing daily!

Glad you enjoyed it JB, you have learnt lots about the importance of socialisation from an early age since your Westie.
Snowy, my whippet was very good at obedience but on hard floors she used to lower her bottom slowly and gently and let it hover just above the ground, haha!
Looking forward JB to the next report and how the instructor manages puppies doing recall in a wide open space, do you think they will be on a long line?

Glad it went so well JB, well done Woolfie. Obviously she doesnt take after Mabel ..... 5 out of 6 weeks watching the class from under my chair, and snoring a lot! Xx

Gosh no, she was rather wildly excited by all the other doggies!

I was wondering this, it will be interesting to find out! Wolfie has fab recall at home, but appears to be completely deaf when we're out and about at the moment :wink3:
