My daughter did first ridden yesterday and came second, but was told she would have come fisrt if she had galloped!!

They say no cantering as a class which they did and that they do not have to canter in there show unless they want to , which she did but if no canter then why gallop

I thought first ridden was a move on from lead rein so would surley not inc gallop

Happy to be told Im wrong

Seems a bit strange - when my daughter did first ridden she always used to have to canter

as part of her show she always did an extended canter round the outside of the ring but never galloped.

I'm quite surprised at this Wind i am hoping to get my daughter into some first ridden classes soon and I didn'nt think galloping would be part of it. Hope this is a one off but also interested in what others say!

i dont think ur meant to gallop or etend....a figure of 8 at trot and canter is all that is needed imo.....however i could be wrong.....i wouldnt expect my daughter to gallop in first ridden

Can't have been a county judge or circuit, there is no galloping in first ridden, the pony should be the step up from lead rein, well mannered and obedient and can extend if child wishes to show but definitely no galloping.

Well done to your daughter, but sounds like the judge was a muppet. After many years of showing at a local level with my daughter I can safely say that the only thing you can be vcertain of with showing classes is inconsistency!
