bit of a pointless post but I'm a happy girl so I had to share :D
I got back on today, ten weeks after breaking my leg.
rising trot isn't feasible at the moment and I have to get off onto a mounting block :o but it's better than being stuck watching :p

Congrats :) Bet you feel fantastic being back in the saddle after that long. Did you have a nice ride? The sun has been shining here and all the horses on our yard have enjoyed their first hacks in about 2/3 weeks because of the snow, happy faces all round (both human and equine!) :)

It's blowing a gale up here :p
I was only on for five minutes but it felt great - my sitting trot is going to be amazing by the time I can start back properly :D

Lucky you! Am v envious!
Had my cast off on Fri & was eying up my tack yesterday, till DH went bonkers :o

I understand where DH is coming from - I got new horse into my yard about an hour before breaking my leg :o so I really dont know him at all.
DH has also had to take care of hourework & cooking etc neither have ever been his 'thing', bless him
Am going to get someone on him for a few days to 'assess' him as he's been loafing round the field for last 6+ weeks through the rain & snow etc.

So - how were the muscles etc? Did you feel relaxed?
Am so jealous (I think I said that to start with tho :o )

Well done :)

I was a bit sore when I got off - I can certainly feel the muscles protesting a bit :p

I felt fine when I was in the saddle although I did have to drop my stirrups a few holes to take the pressure off of my knee (I broke the tibial plateau and stretched all the ligament around my knee).

slowly but surely :D

Cheers, sounds like a nasty one!
To be honest I prob need to wait a bit longer, will prob have a go at lunging later in the week - was only my 2nd day mucking out this morning & even leading in or out a short way is a slow process (thank goodness they have been good & going slow for me)

well done you. How did you break your leg ?

Where you nervous ?

My daughter got back on last week after fracturing her back, she wasnt nervous at all. Me on the other hand, well I was a nervous wreck. Kept shouting, its time to get off now, thats enough. Funnily enough she ignored me, as usual !

She hasnt had any pain since getting back, so its a good start.

Keep up the good work :D

dads horse decided to start bucking after a jump and I bailed out. I landed on my feet and went over the side  I would have been better trying to stay on. :o

that's good about your daughter not being nervous :D
my dad kept telling me I was doing top much - all I did was trot along the long side once on each rein in sitting trot to see how it felt :p

Well done thats inspriring, I am just recovering after a broken wrist 3 (Places) ouch but plan to get in the saddle next week, will do some gorund work this week though as they have not been ridden in 2 months:D and want to make it a positive experience.. just like yours!

Well done :) I broke my ankle in August and I've had 3 lessons with my instructor this month. I started at walk ( being led) as I was so nervous. The second time I walked on my own and the third time I trotted (sitting). I felt like a bag of tatties! I've increased the time each lesson.

I treated myself to a new pair of boots and a set of sprenger stirrups - expensive but worth it. I have no muscle in the broken ankle leg and the stirrups really help.

This week I'm going to try riding on my own around the farm and increase the days I work with my girl :)

It won't be long till your back in the saddle properly. x

I have heard of a few people doing the same by landing on their feet. ouch.

I know how your dad feels, i think its worse watching you kids get back on.

Best of luck, and hope your back to normal soon:D

Oh I'm very jealous I'm aiming to be back on board very soon. I ruptured my anterior cruciate ligament in my right knee in November. I can't wait to ride again but it seems to be taking ages for my poor knee to get strong enough. I'm doing all my physio exercises like a woman possessed! We're you nervous about getting back in the saddle I must admit I've lost my nerve a bit which is not a nice feeling! :(

no nerves at all :)
I did have my dad in the school though because I needed him to pop the mounting block in the right place for me to slide off onto my good leg like a huge uncoordinated lump :p

I'm technically not supposed to be 'riding' at the moment - the physio said that it generally takes 12 weeks before you can think about getting back to normal but he was supportive and told me to make sure that I was very careful. :o

it does help that two of my horses are very quiet. my youngest is not so I won't be getting on him for a while :p plus, he's blimmin' huge and I'd still have to jump off, even onto the block :D

good luck to everyone starting back. slowly slowly is the answer ;)

I broke my ankle and leg last April and now have a metal plate and 7 or 9 (cant remember) screws holding it all together. I was back in the saddle in July so about 4 months later and coped fine. But I did find that my ankle became sore fairly quickly. I was advised to use the flexible stirrups and they helped no end so wondered whether this could help anyone on this thread. Not expensive ones - think they cost about £35.

Good luck to everyone...

Yippee! Well done and here's your chance to practice sitting trot. :)
I had 8 weeks off after a broken collarbone and I was very stiff the following day. It was almost 3 months before I restarted my lessons and that was really hard as I was so unfit AND I'd made the mistake of booking an hour long lesson. Even my RI was feeling sorry for me by the end.:) 5 months on and all going well.

Well done. When i done mine a few years ago i had to get on side saddle and swing my good leg over and had to do this for months was so lucky my boys was amazing. I found once i got back on it helped my muscles get stronger without to much strain and my physio was amazed at how much riding helped.

Well done you - especially the trotting!

When I broke my hand, there was a mix up at the hospital with the dates to take the cast off - so I was in plaster for two extra weeks.

The girls on the yard did catch me sneakily tacking up (still in plaster, but it was better!!) to have just a little sit - my horse was rapidly untacked and I was told in no uncertain terms NO! When I did finally manage to get when the cast was off, they put me on a lead rein!!!
