Well I did it.... finally!
After deciding with mum that we may as well just ride in the field I put my brave pants on and had a bimble about on Loki today. I felt so stupid afterwards because when I got on I was actually nervous! with my uber sensible lad! He stood like a statue for me to hop on and I (for once) fixed my stirrups the proper BHS way - foot still in stirrup adjusted with one hand - rather than my usual foot out adjust with both hands mishmash  and my legs were actually shaking! :o
I took a deep breath and started out slow. He felt really relaxed so we upped the pace to trot and then had a couple of little canters :D
The only problem was when Pippa (who was loose in the paddock and had been keeping pace with us by our sides :o) decided to cut us off when we were turning at one point and Loki had a bit of a road rage incident ha ha! We had a little buck but nothing silly big so it was all fine :)
Next time I think I'll tie Pippa up with a haynet to keep her occupied while me and Loki have our excercise sessions :)
Now to get him fit again

Well done brave pants on :D Perhaps Pippa was a little envious and wanted to be the one ridden:) It seems like she was loose in the same paddock in which case the idea to move her elsewhere seems the safest option just in case of a stray buck etc.

Thanks Ha ha! Yeah she was, I just didn't really have my "clever" brain in  I thought she'd grab the opportunity to stuff her face with hay but she seemed to want to tag along with us instead :)
Definitely gonna either tie her up or put her in the next paddock next time, I thought tying her up would be better incase she went loopy loose in the other paddock - it's seperated by electric fence.

Well done, I rode last weekend for the first time since September due to cracking my knee cap and tearing muscles etc after a fall. Taken me a while to get enough bottle to get back on, had a lovely ride and when I got back I though what's all the stress been about! So like you back on it and getting us both fitter for the Summer if we ever get one! Well done and my reward was a Galaxy ripple!!

Well done you and your brave pants :D pleased it went well for you, here is to more of you doing this, not forgetting the pants

Cheers! :D Can't forget the pants! What if my trousers rip?!;):D

Now I've got that first ride in 4 (count em!) whole months over with I know it'll be fine :) Loki's an old horse in a young horses body really and sillyness is really far too much effort for him ha ha! ;)

Oh ouch! At least you had a good excuse not to ride though, I've just been waiting for perfect conditions, company, time etc  I should've just got on with it really ha ha!
You deserve your reward! Good luck with the getting fit too :)

I would do next paddock from recent experience of having 2 compete for attention whilst schooling ... they just strut about and then heads down. My worry would be her breaking loose if tied in same paddock and then charging towards you as you were mid dressage test etc..

I did think about that, the horror of pony gone wild with leadrope dangling and getting wrapped around her legs :( Paddock it is then! Thanks :D
Not so sure about the dressage test though ha ha! We're a looooong way away from even the lowest test there is ;)
