I went to a riding school up to the age of about 11, and have had lessons on my own horses in recent years.

Well, one of them has knocked my confidence lately, so in an attempt to bring it back up to usual (fairly confident....) levels, I booked in at a local riding school that I thought would be quite good.

I had a one hour private lesson, on a nice horse that was rather bigger than I was used to.

and oh my god!! I obviously don;t ride 'properly' these days!! I had the lesson on tuesday and am aching like you wouldn;t believe!!

The good thing is, it really helped. The instructor told me she was pleased to teach someone who could ride, and I did work without stirrups for the first time in years!! Which I was quite nervous about actually, esp. canter, but I overcame the nerves and did it so pleased.

The horse was lovely, he ignored me for a bit until he realised I could do it 'properly' and then was fantastic.

I will be tryign to make it fairly regular, as I really think it helped me.

Well done :D I'm sure it will be the first step on the road to getting your confidence back. And well done for finding a good RS as well, they seem hard to come by (near me anyway!)

I had a riding school lesson last night too! First time since i was a teenager (although had lessons since but not at a riding school). My legs ache like mad today but i haven't ridden in 12 months due to pregnancy and hadn't really ridden much for 2 years before that (another pregnancy) so i think i can be excused :o My poor body didn't know what had hit it!

I rode a little cob who, despite being not my type at all was really very sweet and certainly made sure i worked hard! Have to admit i was really pleasantly surprised at the whole experience.

Glad you enjoyed your lesson too :)

I've been thinking of doing this too. My mare is quite sharp and since baby no 4 arrived I can't get my confidence up to get on her, plus my stomach muscles have gone to he'll in a handcart so not sure about my core stability. Had wondered if a lesson on something steadier would help and sounds like it will. Thanks for that.
Well done too, I hope the aching doesn't last too long.
