I am loaning a horse and we have taken the decision to do my first show on the 25th August! We are doing unaffiliated showjumping, and probably will start with 60cm! Does anyone have any show prep tips, what to take, what to expect on the day, and any other general tips needed for your first show?

the last time i did was a tiny pony club one about 5 years ago, so any help is appreciated! (:

Oh how exciting, im sure it will go brilliantly for you. Firstly how far away from you is it?

Make a list of everything you will need, start with your horse then you (not comprehensive) , so
water
haynet
water bucket
water bucket to wash down
tack
boots
grooming kit

Rider
Jacket
Jods
Hat
Boots
Whip
Entry money or relevant docs

Give yourself loads of time, i like to work back from when i will be competing to what time to arrive at the showgrounds at, to what time i need to be in the yard at to get him ready to what time to get up at.

I'm so excited! I'm hoping we do well! It's about 12 miles in horsebox, but after this show, I will be looking to enter competitions based at a venue which is about half an hour away ! I jump her every day now to get used to her and do a lot of work on her different strides and controlling her speed and steering!

Do you know what colour tack you need with regards to numnah and the colour of the rider's clothes? I'm really unsure of what to expect!

Thanks for the time tip! That's a great way to think about it!!

Oh good, sounds like you are well prepared, you would be amazed how much you can achieve from polework - no need to be jumping fences all day long.

Re turnout it depends on the level of show and whether it is affliated or not. As yours is unaffliated you can wear what you like but i think its general better to look as presentable as possibly as it creates a good image and helps get you in the mindset. For this competition i would say that light coloured jods, either beige, white, fawn with a smart jumper and collar would be perfect. Keep your hair nice and tidy is a small bun under your hat and ensure all bridle parts are in their keepers and runners. Your horse can wear any colour numnah but again, presentable usually means a neutral colour - black, grey, brown or white and a saddle cloth rather than numnah is more used by showjumpers.

You arent required to plait but have your horse looking smart as im sure you will want some photos.
