A year ago my young horse went over the front bar in our 510 on his way to our first show. There were no injuries but it was mentally awful, and although we did load him a few times after that we never tried to travel him. Fast forward a year, we've practiced loading, and we've always put him in with another horse, today we bit the bullet, loaded him worth OH's boy and off eye went, ooh, at least a mile away to our local reservoir where we unloaded, hacked for an hour and loaded again, travelling without incident, phew, what a relief! Obviously a lot more practice needed but so very happy!
And OH's lad Finlay went to his first show today and was foot perfect, and 2nd in the coloured class. He is on loan to us having lived on an 800 acre Dartmoor hill farm for five years, and having done next to nothing in those five years too just occasionally being vaulted on bareback to check the sheep! He is a delightful horse and well loved.
