I go down to the field this morning and take my boy into his stable for breakfast and what do I see.
A relatively deep, long cut on his hindquarters. Not awful enough to warrant a vet call, and I don't think it's too painful for him on it's own.
He had a mild hissy fit when I first cleaned it and put a light spraying of Antiseptic on it. Left that to dry whilst I timed mum's lunge-work for her, then went back and put some wound powder on it so the flies couldn't get to it. He had another hissy fit about that as well.
I reckon what's caused it is the stupid brambles that our stupid yard owner doesn't want cut back beause she wants to field to be 'natural'. Urgh. We're gonna show her what's happened and basically demand that we be allowed to cut them back now.
But, I swear he's going to be the most wound-covered horse at the show. It's only a small local show, and I'm only going in for the Novice class (never been to a show myself), but still.
He's got this new one. Another superficial version of the same thing on his side that he got yesterday evening. Plus some healing bite and kick mark (again nothing too bad) from the young TB he shares his field with.
Last time I asked my riding instructor she said that the judges shouldn't mind too much about 'cosmetic wounds' like what these are. Seeing as she does judging at this show (for different classes), I hope she knows what she's talking about.
What do you reckon? Will it make too much of a difference if he does everything else perfectly?
(Apologies for the rant
