Doing my first riding club show tomorrow. 3 classes. tack and turn out, veteran and M& M. ready as I will ever be! Its low key apparently, I am looking forward to it, but nervous. I am not a great rider. Any tips welcome! I am a nifty fifty not a teenager!!

Enjoy it!
I am also a late starter to competing at the age of naughty forty and I have so far been to two shows, both organinsed by a friend and his yard. I am entering my first 'real' show next Sunday so I would also be grateful to get any tips from experienced RCers!

In showing make sure you have a hairnet and if wearing short boots make sure you have joddy clips, I got 2nd instead of 1st in a coloured class because i didnt have a hairnet! and another girl was moved down a place because she forgot her johdpur clips! and this was at the local show we were like :O

For tack and turnout just make sure every thing is clean (tack ,horse and you), Pay attention to detail eg bridle tucked into keepers, clean under saddle flaps, get somone to wipe the bottom of your boots off after you have mounted. Take some baby wipes with you as they are invaluable for wiping round tack, noses, mouths and any where else that may become dirty. If you use chalk for white bits make sure its all brushed out so judge does not get it all over hands. Allow yourself plenty of time to get ready as there is nothing worse than rushing around and becoming stressed. Hope you have a fab day.
