Mr C and I will hopefully be attending our first ever show tomorrow. He's been to some small shows with his previous owner but I've never been to a show before so I'm very excited/nervous about it!

The show is about 3 miles from our yard so we can hack there in about an hour.

The plan is that there will be about 5 of us from my yard hacking to the show tomorrow morning BUT no one else is really that fussed about going and so they've said they'll only go if the weather is ok.

Now, obviously if it's really wet and windy we won't go and the show will probably be cancelled anyway but I don't mind if there is a little bit of drizzle - we can just wear our waterproofs! Unfortunately, that little bit if drizzle is enought to put everyone else off going and tomorrows forecast is not looking good!

So, what do I do? If everyone else pulls out should I hack down on my own - bearing in mind I'm quite nervous on the roads and we've not been out on the roads on our own for ages and the last time we were he bolted with me! It would also mean I have no where to stash my stuff (hi viz/water proofs when I get there!)

Do I just miss out then and wait for the next show or should I try and go alone?

Any other ideas?

Unfortunately my O/H is away golfing this weekend or he would have been walking with me - I could ask one of the other liveries at the yard who I am good friends with but not sure if they'd be up for it TBH - and as for my non horsey friends - there's no chance they would even entertain that idea!

what classes are you thinking of doing once you get there?

Maybe best not going it alone if you are nervous, will only transfer through to your horse.

Will the other liveries make their decision today or wait and see what the weather is doing in the morning?

As its our first show we're only doing tack and turn out and ridden horse - the others are all doing the jumping classes later on in the morning.

Unfortunately I think they'll be making their mind up tomorrow so I have to have everything done just in case - wouldn't be so bad if we weren't doing T&T!

Hmmmm yes, T&T is usually pretty hotly contested, so make sure you leave some time for a spruce up once you get there

Clean your tack & horse just in case, and maybe if it is raining and you can persuade someone to come with you, maybe just go for the ridden horse class?

Weather forecast might be wrong and you could be pleasantly surprised

Hope the weather is ok. I wouldn't go on your own if you are likely to be nervous, too much added pressure. If it's wet won't one of them hack with you all waterproofed up even though they've decided not to compete?

Totally agree. First show nerves compounded by riding on the road alone nerves may spoil it completely as the horse will pick it up. Frankly, I don't think it's possible to do tack and turnout well unless you have help. Other classes are possible, but someone to help, even if just to look after your hi viz, is a big help. We try and have 1 groom per pony/rider but then apart from the RHS we usually have every pony/rider in several classes and it's manic.
