Novices as in, people who have never experienced lammi before.

Could someone give me the first 2/3 signs that sigify that a horse has lammi or LGL.

(Obv the 'stance' is a physically noticable one but thats much too far down the line)

Thanks

I'll give you the first one, raised digital pulses, which is why it's worth knowing what's normal for your horse and checking regularly, especially during the spring flush of grass.

Breathing heavily which is an indication of pain, so watch their flanks

Feeling their feet when turning .... I walk my horse on tarmac or concrete every day and turn him as this was the first major sign I had....

Some would say heat in the foot/ feet but wouldn't rely on this as foot temps can vary anyhow. Being 'footie' is a sign, basically this can be just being a bit tender on their feet, especially on concrete or rough ground, also walking shorter, eg not seeming to step out as normal. The leaning back stance as you mentioned, in my opinion would mean things had gone a bit further into full laminitis rather than the early stages.

Raised digital pulse, footiness... progressing into refusing to move, refusing to turn a circle, leaning back, breathing fast.
Only reason I noticed Kit was laminitic was because I caught her without fuss (she is a bugger to catch). I knew something was up because of that, then she wouldn't move. In 24 hours she went from lame and uncomfortable to in absolute agony rocking back on her hindlegs, puffing like a steamtrain, shaking all over... reason number one to call the vet out IMMEDIATELY for suspected laminitis - it progresses VERY quickly.
(Disclaimer - I did tell the owner to call the damned vet...)

first signs can be like mild footiness-unwilling to turn tight circle on concrete, resting front legs, leg shaking, unwilling to move forwards as freely, walking slower down hill, riased digital pulse for no other obvious reason.
