Yesterday, M and I took our ponies to cross country. Storm has never been before, only started jumping a few months ago (at almost 8 years old), so my ultimate plan was just to not die! Started by walking around all the jumps so we could gauge how scary everything was (not very!), then followed Potty over almost everything - steps (both ways), ditches, logs, tyres, barrels. He's never seen anything except logs and ditches before, but he jumped the 'scary stuff' brilliantly! We had a couple of HUGE jumps over things where I thought I was flying, and a pretty hairy moment when he ran out on the second log of a double - not sure how I managed to stay on but I did! He only ran out one other time (which was my fault for not being quite straight enough on the second part of another double), which is a huge improvement from his usual self! He even did the steps (up and down) and a small course of about 6 jumps without following Potty over them. Both ponies were absolute stars, and all four of us were very sweaty by the end!
Considering the only jumping I've done in about 6 years is with Storm (and he does more running out than jumping usually!) I was pretty proud of both of us!
I'll put some pictures up when I get them from M
