My horse and I are doing our first hunter trials this weekend. It's only 2' 3" so well within our capability but the nerves have started to set in! We've been practising jumping tyres and rustic jumps at home so hopefully that will help a bit! Does anyone have any xc advice for us newbies?! :D

In previous experience, take one person who you will listen to to walk around the course with you. I find that if I have a friend or relative with me who has no idea about horses that it gets me frustrated and angry! I take either my fabulous mum or my riding instructor as i respect their views and concerns about the striding and jumps. The day before just do a light hack with only one canter, this helps keep you fresh and your horse sane!
Hope this helps.

I'm afraid my motto is heels down and sit up! It does seem to work though!

Good luck and just try to enjoy it - the buzz is BRILLIANT.
