Horse has been on/off lame for a few weeks now initially with what was thought to be an abscess then a bruise but still not right so had the vet out again today who now thinks laminitis. She thought he was lame in both front feet today and both had heat and a pulse…
He’s not very lame, more short strided and guarded. He did not respond to hoof testers.
He’s 18, never had it at all before.
she has prescribed bute and box rest or a tiny paddock as he lives out.. he’s been barefoot for years due to other issues and I’d like to keep it that way but she suggested heart bar shoes or pads? Could he have pads without shoes? She said she would test for cushings in a couple of weeks as we get get an off result if we do it now.
I’m completely blind sided by this. Absolutely not what I was thinking! Is there anything else I need to know or do?
