Hi all
Ok so I have decided to ditch the trailer and get a lorry. For anyone who has bought their first lorry did you go to a dealer or go in the deep end and look at private lorries and hope for the best? Is it really worth paying over the odds for peace of mind or a waste of money?
Thanks

I think it depends in what price bracket you are looking. If you are looking for a reasonably expensive lorry then the dealers tend to pretty reliable. If you are going for something cheaper and/or second hand then you risk having something that has been patched up/bodged. Don't forget the dealer will spend as little as possible to get a lorry in to a saleable condition in order to make as much profit as possible. I would suggest whoever you are buying from, if you are not mechanically minded, then it would be a very good idea to have an independent mechanic look at it (preferably somebody who knows about horseboxes so will check the floor etc as well). It is very easy to buy something that looks like a bargain and then have to spend thousands making it safe/reliable to use. Even fixing basic things can cost a lot more than maintaining your car. Good luck!

I looked at a couple 2nd hand but was too scared to make a commitment as I just didnt have a clue what I was looking for, mechanically. I ended up paying a horsebox company to convert a wagon for me. At least I knew the floor was 100% sound etc. Saying that I only have one horse too and this wagon has hardly been used so Ive decided to sell it. It cost a fair amount and I cant warrant it standing there doing nothing. Im now hoping to sell it and buy an older wagon that wont be as much money stood there. Ive found a good wagon mechanic who said he will come and look over anything I find.
I found the whole experience exciting at first then scary.
