hi just wondering if some1 cud help! i have a 6yr old IDx he has never bin hacked out on a rd b4 and guess wot i want to try!! he isnt stupid as such at scary things just stops head up snorts n side steps few strides!
i have some1 to ride with their horse is really good on the rd was wondering if to use a martingale or something any tips advice wud be really helpfull
thanks!!

why would a martingale help with the normal youngster spookiness you describe? recommend long reining and walking in hand past all the scaries lots of times before riding out and then going out in normal tack with bombproof companion horse.

ive bin told to do so many different things with him im more confused then anything!!!
i have bin doin loads of ground work with him he had never seen a lorry b4 i had him so that was an experience which he did really well with his field was nxt to rd! there is tractors big machinery at stables he is now used to the noise etc

Do you feel confident riding him and is he responsive to the aids? If not, work on getting him more receptive in the school and practice standing (for several seconds) and moving away from the leg. He will also feel more confident in you if you can establish good manners in the arena / field. Don't venture out on to the roads until you have the full measure (and control) of your horse. If you are having to deal with lorries you obviously have heavy traffic and you need to know your horse and his reactions very well before it would be sensible to take him out in order for it to be safe.
A neck strap is a good idea to put on. Doesn't affect going of horse but gives you something to grab onto if anything exciting happens!
Good luck! Give it time and don't be in a rush to get out and about

thanks! im getting an instructor to help me with him gotta admit he is cummin on really well he responds to voice really well and the leg hit and miss! iv only had him 2 months so im still getting to know him i think aswell its me thinking he is a spooky nutta of a horse like my last 1 which really doesnt help!!
