Ok I have got a little more confident with the old jumping now!! I was going to run Open Intro at Shipton Moyne but it was not on.

So I am thinking of doing my first event at Open Pre Novice, as the height is not an issue to me or the horse

!!

These are the events I can do, did not know which one would be a nice first time Pre Novice.
Its really for my benefit, the horse has no problem with the courses as he has been round all of them and done up to Advanced!!
So it is more for me!! so please be nice!!

Smiths Lawn

Aston

Highclere

Goring

Blenheim - ?????? Could give it ago!!

I would usually say Aston is a dead cert, but, the PN on the 12th Aug is run the day after the PN Champs. I did this last year and found it a really tough course, having done my 1st PN at Aston in the May and flown around. Some of the fences in the Aug PN were novice fences that had been used in the champs the day before so were a lot more testing. I therefore wasn't that impressed!! Bear in mind though I am a bit of a wimp and if your horse has competed to advanced level I'm sure you'd be fine, just thought I'd warn you that its not the usual straightforward Aston PN the day after the champs!! (hope that all makes sense??)

Many people have been saying to me that Highclere is up to height, and would not be a good one for my first one?

I am thinking I will do Goring

I did Highclere as my 2nd PN and it was certainly up to height for the majority of the course but it was very inviting and not technical. I think if I had to choose between Highclere and Goring I would opt for Highclere, but you could probably do both!

Goring showjumping is massive as is the XC.

Thought the XC 2 years ago was very big over a lot of the old Novice fences! but saying that it was the only course that tricky little complicated Owen had a clear round on 2 years ago with a bad back !
Despite the size of the fences it was a true galloping meaty course that they really could get their teeth into, and gave Owen far more confidence than these poxy little windy courses that you get in other places. It had a high % of XC clears.

Yes another person said most of the fences were run over the novice course.

O well I can only go for it!!

The height for SJ is not an issue - XC ones I am more worried about the Technical side of it!
