Hi all. I'm new on here and wondered if I could ask for some advice. For various reasons I've decided to put my horse up for sale but I've never sold one before! I've put an ad on the horse and hound website but had virtually no interest, despite lots of views. I sent it out to a few people to ask their opinions on it and no one came back with anything negative. I've included (I think!) all the important information. Can I ask how much interest people had when selling? How long did it take? And where did they advertise? Thanks very much

It depends really often there is no rhyme no reason why some get loads of interest and sell quickly and others get no calls, if you want to send me a link to your ad by pm, click on my name on the left of this post, then I will give you my opinion on what it looks like and suggest any tweaks that may help.

I guess it depends on what you're selling and if it appeals to the current market. Feel free to send it to me too and I'll gladly take a look (it's very quiet in the office until 6 on your own!)
The title tends to be a big one for me, if somebody has put "Stunning coloured horse for sale" with a badly taken picture, there's no way I'm clicking on that advert. If the title is concise, has the basic info (eg. 15hh, ISH, gelding) with a good side on confo shot or a good action shot then I will be more inclined to take a look.

Hope that makes sense!

Might be worth reviewing pics too. They need to each show something of value, not lots of same or snaps relaxing at home. If you say something like Great XC then a good XC would help. Sure not you op but see many ads for great ridden horses without a ridden photo! Good luck, hope you have some interest soon

Photos are the most crucial element of an ad for me. If your horse has decent conformation then show clear photos of your horse standing square from front, back and side. Who wants to travel far only to find a poorly conformed horse? Most want something sane on the road, so photos of your horse passing obstacles or traffic good. Also if jumps makes sure there is at least one photo of him doing this. If he can work in outline definitely show a photo of him schooling in this way. Then in the ad say that you are willing to send more pictures and videos upon request. The number of ads just showing a horse grazing rugged up in a field, or being hugged, or sat on in tied in the yard just aren't going to cut it.
Good luck selling your horse 😊

I may have missed the boat but I've sent you the link.

There's a message at the top of the forum screen saying that if I've placed an ad with Horse and Hound I can put a link to it in my signature. I've had a look but can't figure out how to do this. Couod anyone point me in the right direction!?

As far as the ad goes, it's concise(although possibly too much so), has a side on picture and a few pictures of the horse working.

If you can have it in your signature then surely you can post the link? I'd be interested in having a look and seeing if i can give any positive feedback :)
